Gee, I can't tell if this is a serious question, but i'll bite: In the book Iron and Silk, a teacher of wushu told his student "what sort of person could carry a spear in public and be seen as a respectable person?" Ancient China wasn't like Japan - the military didn't run the country. You can use wushu for health or fighting, but the overwhelming majority of practitioners do it for health and culture because those things are more relevant to their lives. So no, wushu isn't "fake".

The entire sword is 50 inches long, the blade is 36 inches in length. It's generally used as a Shaolin weapon. These WuDang practitioners on KZitem are in splendid condition, and their structure and alignment are quite good. They could win a lot of trophies and awards in competition, but they all look like they're doing Shaolin Boxing of one kind or another. If you want to see real WuDon Martial Arts, check out some of the older men and women, usually doing Tai-Chi. You will see the "rubbing energy" that grants real power. They look like they're barely moving.

So smooth round and continuous is also a principle of baguazhang! Very cool. It's why I'm in love with internal arts!

@FURognar yes, it's a testament to the high quality of metallurgy present in ancient China when spring steel is considered the "traditional" metal used in Chinese swords. Spring steel holds a very sharp edge, is hard yet pliable enough not to get damaged.

longer weapons make it easier to coil and stick with your opponent's weapon once contact is made, which is seen a lot in internal styles

@dhossbach Chinese fencing blades are very light and springy. When you hold them still, they are very stiff, but once you start them moving at velocity, they begin to bend under the energy of the movement in response to the redirection of their mass. I have owned a few and they all had this characteristic.

You can always go to where this is and inquire if they have some. Seems like some traditional garb though, not sure if it's reserved for dedicated practitioners

@kunzangnyima

"Hidden sword" hand posture: by pressing the thumb and pinky and ring finger together, then extending the pointing fingers, the hand not holding the sword gains the sensation of holding a sword, allowing the body to balance the sword weight better (and also mildly train your off hand to hold a sword too)

does ancient chinese swordplays and wushu work in real situations? my friend say they are all fake. they train it for passing time and building body health. just like tai-chi is that true? but i cant figure out. they do learn these during their war time.

Wudang and other Daoist are not called monks. They are called "shi." Monks shave their heads. No disrespect intended. It's just a coincidence that an elderly Chinese gentleman corrected me today in this regard.
