I feel like Hermine got robbed of star baker this week. She did great.

I think she was absolute shoe-in until the showstopper where her cage was bulky and crumbled, and her pastry to tart ratio was off. Still, it's hard to weigh those missteps against Laura coming 6th in technical. Not sure what was the right call but I'm sad because I was rooting for Hermine.

Heya Travis and Teresa! Since you guys mentioned this a couple weeks ago and mentioned again today about how if a bake isn't working, they should just change the plan, I have info for you! Nancy was on Getting Curious with JVN a while back and the queen herself said that they actually have to submit their planned bakes to the show literal months in advance, so if they're not working out in practice, the bakers are pretty much stuck with trying to make it work in the tent! They can't change the plan. Something having to do with the show having all the necessary ingredients on hand for them I think.

I don't think you're being fair to Lottie. Yes the competition is in her control, but there's also the element of time pressure, and I think when she says things like "The crimping could be nicer" she means "The crimping could be nicer [but I don't have time and I need to turn in *something*]"

You would have thought that someone on the production staff would have seen the name of that tart and thought to themselves that it may not age well. The UK is often out of sync with the US in terms of what is considered ok and what isn't, and I think the majority of people in the UK probably don't even know that it's considered offensive, but surely someone would have used the internet enough to have heard of that one. I bet that episode will be hard to watch back in 5 years' time once that knowledge is more widespread.

It's weird because the first people I ever saw saying that term was offensive lived in the UK and I was always under the impression that it was both more widespread in Europe and also more widely known to be a slur, though perhaps I am wrong. Although there is that weird trend of people renaming g word things with the t and w word euphemisms that are also offensive as well... guys you just have to completely rename the thing.

Lottie's pasties genuinely annoyed me and it gets on my nerves that no one called her out on this. She basically just threw premade, pre-seasoned sausages into some (bad) pastry. Making mash potato and gravy doesn't show any skill. Everyone else was actually making their own flavours, she just got hers pre-made.

I love listening to your discussion about the show, but as someone who has not finished all the previous season I’d really appreciate if you could try not to outright say who has or has not won a previous season. A big part of my enjoyment watching the show is trying to guess who is going to be star baker and who’s going home each episode. Anyways keep up the amazing content!
