My comment on Japan is that it's not that USA militarily defeated Japan, but Japan didn't have an alternative market back in 1980s. The market access to US was necessary back then. The reason why it's different today is there are large markets in China, India, ASEAN, EU which gives USA much less leverage.

@@Kalyan-s9f that’s not how that works. Weapons systems require compatibility and training. You can’t run .556 NATO though an AK. You can’t put an rpg rocket through a grenade launcher. How long would it take to train on an S400 vs a patriot. How long to train F35 pilots to fly a Dassault?

Balaji’s description or classification of France confuses me. Macron has basically lost his mind because Russia backed France’s old colonies to finally gain their full independence. They now get to benefit from their natural resources instead of France. Now look at Macron’s response to that. Threatening to go into Ukraine.

Don’t fool yourself. Before it was unified by the British, there were hundreds of countries always fighting among themselves, the countries borders changes almost everyday. @@audreychen5363 in India there are 3-4 levels of "kings". It was a remarkable decentralised system with built in resilience. The highest king is the emperor (Samrat), the 2nd level "king" is actually a regional governor, the 3 rd level "king" is actually a provincial governor and 4th level is like a district head. When the Emperor is defeated or some other tragedy strikes, the 2nd, 3rd and 3th level kings continue to rule as "Independent". This gives stability to the whole system.
