In the dialogue with Bane, we can hear that Bane benefits from alliances with Baal and Myrkul, because their deeds and ambitions feed Bane. We can also find notes from some Bane’s servants, in which they write with confidence that the cult of Myrkul and Baal in the end will be serving Bane. I don't remember all the details, but it was pretty clear for me that neither the gods nor their chosen ones were going to be allies from every beggining.

I love how Gortash genuinely wants to work with you. The game sets you up to distrust him but it makes perfect sense for him to ally with you. Orin is well, Orin, and Ketheric is nothing without his immortality. It makes perfect sense for him to want to ally himself with someone who has proven themselves capable. I know for D Urge Gortash already knew you, but for Tav he knows he can’t beat you and your party. Of course, he’s also for his bluster, incredibly short sighted thinking he can control an Elder Brain, and his plan is so royally stupid that it gets Jergal, the Gith and Raphael involved but hey.

Perhaps actually helping with the idk. Gortash has been a mixed bag for me. On one hand, i love Lawful Evil and he clearly has some brain. His plot was clever and fittingly tyranical. But in the end it seems he was always doomed to fail and his lofty ambitions were pointless. I wish he would have done something atleast. Edit: I think they should have done, is that he would help you with the final battles alongside his few remaining Cult of Bane perhaps. Maybe even a Steelwatcher if the factory is still up. Some mild spoilers for those disappointed in Gortash's death here: - If you kill him, you can see he's wearing some magical items (his clothes, also If I remember correctly a ring or amulet), that I believe magically make him immue to conditions like frightened and give him bonuses to persuasion. I thought it a nce touch that shows that his bravado is a facade, and that he needs magic to not be afraid. - If you play DU, you learn that the plan was devised by the DU and the netherbrain pretty much tells you that while you were in charge you were the only one that could control it, so it planted the suggestions in Orin's brain to try and take your place. The one thing I'll say is, not everything in a story needs to be 'epic' to work. Thinking back on the story after beating the game, I actually kind of like that both Gortash and Orin, in their own way, are actually quite pathetic and were being played by the nether brain all along (Ketheric as well, in his own way). In my own playthrough their characters both played out different than what I expected of them in the end of Act 2, and I initially was disappointed that neither really fit the role of the overarching sinister villian of the story in the way that Sarevok and Irenicus were in the originals - but I eventually ended up appreciating them as a 'different' story than the one told in the more classically structured originals. Some heavier spoilers... In my own DU run, I eventually found that the options that would make sense for my character to take in the end were to a) free orpheus, b) become a mind flayer, and c) commit suicide in the end end rather than live on as an illithid. A very bittersweet ending all said and done, but I appreciated that I had the ability to end in a way that made narrative sense - because narratively, my DU character would have to make an actually meaningful sacrifice to redeem themselves for their past actions.

kinda disappointed that game draws you to play "good side" heavily. Because every choice you make as "evil" player is then punished by betrayal of your supposed allies or superiors, and resets you on the "good" path... Like, I obeyed Kethric, deliver him Isobel, I loudly and clearly ADMIT to Jaheira - Yes I betrayed you and I'm sided with Kethric. And she is like "haha cool, i'm still joining you" wtf???? literally every evil choice I make is later for some reason excused or rationally explained, can i not play a murderous, evil madman that thinks only about himself? It seems as if good path is well made, and evil path is just a longer way around to get to the good path again. Just like the first Raphael meeting. 5 different choices, all result basically in saying him "oh no, you are a devil and I'm a little scared boy who doesn't deal with evil entities Q.Q"... like, why even offer choices. I want my first option in game to be side with the fucking devil and become his servant. You can side with the devil? He wants to play with you first but in act three you can sign a contract xD Although I get your point it would require almost twice the dev time length to do a full evil playthrough, as they would suddenly need to create an entire story about you following the absolute / the chosen. Siding with Raphael would be interesting if he accepted it immediately, and the rest of the game was you working under him and him forcing you to get the crown for him, again though it would become an entirely different story.

@@kitnal4143 im talking about the first time you meet Raphael. in act 1, when he flicks his finger and transports you to his luscious feast. you get a lot of different dialogue options and ALL of them result in the same outcome... If there was an option to lose the tadpole from act 1 game would be VASTLY different, since you could actually forge a path of your own... As much as i LOVE Larian's storytelling, i still believe that this might have been a bit too rushed. If you played OS2, you know that you don't really get punished for choosing evil side.. Better yet, you get rewarded by the God King with decent powers (curse + passive ressurect) and crazy evil ending. Here you basically can't choose evil side. it's hard coded that you fail. Instead of becoming a puppet of the absolute - that asshole emperor comes in and cock blocks you which results in you becoming the absolute's most wanted enemy.... and you instantly get sent straight to jail XD the only actual way for you to play feel-good-evil is to choose dark urge. Considering your plan to take it over the first time failed because of Orin murdering you and failing and the second time it failed because Gortash thought he could do better or take the power for himself. In fact, I would love it more that if you went down this path the take over ending is locked out because of Gortash ruining the spell. Would still fit the theme of Bhall being pissed because you trusted the champion of his rival instead of killing him and doing it yourself.

The only issue I have with BG3's home rules is the nat 20-nat 1 rule. There's no critical failure or critical success in skill checks. A 20 is just a 20, a 1 is just a 1.

So this is completely off topic of the video but I've noticed people's playable characters having that kinda necrotic appearance in clips and videos, is this a mod or the result of a story choice? Ps. I do not mind spoilers if it's not possible to explain with out spoiling something

It’s the result of a choice that “The Emperor” gives you (IIRC near start of Act 3). I’m 99% sure the choice is impossible to miss so if you don’t know what I’m saying yet just keep playing.

To be fair, siding with Gortash is more beneficial than Ketheric. Aside from party disapproval, and missing out on three major game bosses and a submarine rescue, it is a quicker way to the endgame if you want that. I do wish there was a way Gortash survived though. Would have been cool to work with Gortash and have allied Baneites in the final fight.

gortash as a character (and his arc if there even was one) was so disappointing tbh. he was not at all developed and fleshed out esp in comparison to ketheric and orin, even lesser content in evil durge, genuinely wished they'd done more with him even if it ended the same way with him discarded by the brain like that. he's the least fleshed out, easiest fight, most buggy, it's tragic. atleast he's attractive 🙏🏼

People complain about how "useless" Gortash is. But that's the point of his character - he isn't as smart as he think he is. The spot for magnificent bastard in the plot is already taken by Raphael. Gortash is more cunning than priestess Gut and did damage, but deludes himself with dreams of world domination while he struggles to control one city and can't trust his (insane) complices.

Spoilerish.... the story pretty much makes it clear that the real brains behind the whole scheme was the Dark Urge. In a DU run the netherbrain pretty much tells you straight on that you were the only one that was really able to control it.

Lazy plot writing. If the brain can kill Gortash then why don't they also kill the player and takes the stones? Just killing Gortash off like that is just lazy. Considering BG3 was released before it's done (it is and you all know it even if in denial) then the devs likely forced this in the game. Imagine if we actually had a choice between the emperor and Gortash. And having Gortash run things after. That would have been great. Brain would have to die of course (convince him, have the brain once again prove it can't be controlled then killed. etc). But it can work easily.

agreed and the evil ending was a hot mess. i wanted a team of baddies to rule together not as tav thralling. it ruined the game for me im not touching it for a year to see if they fix the endings. also.....they just patched the game "fixing" mintharas lack of dialogue triggering during act 3. thats nice of them to fix it after the majority of evil players have already finished the game.

Plot just slides down in the third act sadly. There are a lot of contradictions in characterisation (Like the Gortash's or Emperor's, for example), lack of meaningful companion interaction after their quests are done and so on. The endings even for the good playthrough are VERY bare-bones and underwhelming. Definitely not over 17000 variants that were promised. It's a shame, but I hope Larian will fix this stuff if players will be vocal about it, because I very much liked what was going on in the first act.

He looks more like Cyric's Chosen than Bane's. Seriously, the pathetic, cowardly doll is the chosen one of the eternal tyrant and lord of terror? Bane's lawful evil is heavily underrated in games. Bane is supposed to be Sauron D&D. He is the most powerful of the dark three. He was the only one to regain his full status as a greater deity. Give me a true Bane Champion someone like Agandaur. Give me the opportunity to play on the side of evil with honor and dignity, not a mindless need to destroy.

Bane is still a Quasi-deity as by 5e actually. Though yes among the three he held the most authority. "Bane along with the returned Myrkul and Bhaal remained behind as quasi-deities. Though he was still able to influence events over Faerûn, Bane was essentially trapped in a mortal form."
@teoch5217

@@DemonMaluMintus You can see back to Bhaal and Myrkul's lives, Wizard messed up a bit. In the 3rd and 4th editions, Bane is the greater deity. He not only regained, but also increased his power. He even conquered the goblin pantheon. Very quickly, he became one of the most powerful evil gods. Moreover, his church was stable and united. He did not allow internal conflicts. Whereas Myrkul was a lesser deity and had to serve Kelemvor. Second Sundering Weakened most of the gods and reduced their influence on the world. Again, it's not like he didn't regain his power, but he lost it again because of Ao. He remained in mortal form to have greater influence over mortals. He is now literally Sauron of the forgotten lands, sitting in his tower building an empire.

There's an old theory that the current Bane isn't actually Bane. It's his son who supposedly was used to bring Bane back from the dead. Xvim just faked his death and used his dad's identity in order to regain his old followers. This is backed up with "Bane" currently using a lot of things that his son was fond of including the color scheme of Black and green. Gortash honestly fits a lot more a Xvim chosen than Bane's. Not to mention that Bane's faction played second fiddle to Bhaal's
@xandroy1273

I rather disagree. Gortash is a pretty neat chosen for Bane. Yes, he is not physically imposing, but the whole plot is his creation. A mortal trying to subdue an elderbrain is madness but exactly what tyrants might do in this world when they overestimate their power.
