I love that Larian made an obviously evil character so damn complex, when they really didn't have to. The natural reaction to hearing her threaten a child is shock, and then the flashbang that she thinks that constitutes a mercy. I have another point of view: population of most races in Baldur's Gate 3 has modern human morale mostly and it looks strange for me because technical progress is obviosly around late medieval/early renaissance by looking at weapon and armor. In that case Minthara seems very reasonable if we consider it as late medieval/early renaissance age. There was no children, idea and reality of childhood came to real humanity in 19th century before that they were consider as "little adults". I understand it's fantasy but still I feel uncomfortable seeing medieval tech and modern morale. To conclusion: in my opinion Minthara is not evil if we look from the medieval morale point of view at all. She just desires safety and take control of the Absolute cult is salvation because if you can control anyone - no one can't hurt you or your family/lover.

its kind of hard to pin down what lolth exactly wants from her followers. She generally favors people being complete disloyal shitbags. She has rejected Lolth at this point in the game. Probably has since being freed from the Absolute's influence as well. If you're Lolth-sworn and talking about Githyanki culture you can comment that it is "similar to ours" and she'll say she no longer follows Lolth. Most likely she sees no possibility of returning to her previous life after all she's done so has given it up.

@@Domebuddy Well, it is not as hard as it first seems. While it is common to think about her as a tyranical overlord that dominates Drow society, the truth of the matter is that she represents chaos and therefore metaphysically awerse to the concept of tyranny, as bizarre as that sounds. Lolth takes a very active role in her worshipers' lives, but she does not give specific orders to follow like Bane would. Lolth specifically rewards duplicity and selfishness, which goes directly against general dogma of her church that demands submission instead. Moreover, drow that actively rebel against her church, like Jarlaxle and Drizzt, are secretly favored by her. Dizzt actively hates her, but she treats him with uncharacteristic warmth and kindness, she even tells him that he amuzes her. I think that is what she really wants. She enjoys watching her followers scramble like ants, but she abhors order and therefore favors people that will destroy it. Drow outcasts of various kinds do have an uncanny ability to draw all sorts of trouble and generally introduce chaos wherever they go weather they want to or not.

For elves reaching "maturity", ie getting passed puberty into adulthood is roughly around 100-120 years of age--it's all right there in the player's handbook unchanged for literal decades through editions. So, many many many drow reach beyond 50 years old quite commonly, otherwise they'd have gone extinct millennia ago.

@@Apillis124 To be fair, the handbook states that elves age at approximately the same rate as humans until reaching physical maturity, and only then slow down. "Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience." So they finish puberty around the same time as humans, they just are not considering adults in elven society until much later, because they also include experience and understanding as part of maturity and adulthood.
