@nickrubin7312

To be fair, in recent interview to PC Gamer Swen literally says "The biggest release gets the space, and then the others have to move for it. This has always been a universal truth. So we recognized Starfield as a bigger game than us. So that's why we had to move. Players were not going to be playing multiple RPGs of this size at the same time. That's impossible. So you were going to force players to make a choice, so we said 'OK, we'll take that choice away and move elsewhere" So yeah, they recognized Starfield as a bigger game, because it was supposed to be a bigger game, from a studio with much bigger budget and supposed to a heavy hitter 2023. It so just happened to be... well, what happened to be. I really do think they were trying to get away from Starfield, rather than create a competition or outperform

@@nickrubin7312yeah i dont think Larian realized just how popular their game was going to be. Traditionally Crpg no matter how well made are limited by their niche genre, players like me for example simply dont play crpg, since we were not raised on those games. But my god bg3 was a revolution. Probably the best game i have ever played. Its cause of this game that i even started trying other crpg. Just that good, starfield simply got crushed, or to be more fair, wasnt even in competition. To think i bought bg3 just to tide over the month until starfield release feels hilarious now.
@blackshard641
Ай бұрын
@@kunalsingh4418 they plainly didn't. IIRC, they thought they'd get around 100,000 concurrent players at launch. They got more than 8x that, and apparently a full year after release they're still hovering around their original estimate. In July of last year, I remember thinking BG3 was mostly exciting for a niche audience. I was still a little sore from how the massive buzz surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 turned into backlash due to some gamers' negative experiences (I had a brand new PC and only ever had very minor bugs), so partly I was just being cautious, but mostly I thought there was absolutely no way that a CRPG could have the same mainstream appeal as a first-person action adventure. Then I figured the big surge of players for BG3 was mostly social media buzz over the bear scene and general curiosity that would quickly fade after Starfield came out, and BG3 would be a flash in the pan. I did not expect so many other people to replay the game endlessly just the same as I did.

I went from barely scraping my way through balanced difficulty to soloing tactician and will soon attempt a solo honour run. I spend hours meticulously planning character builds, have memorized the location of almost every piece of loot, have seen the outcome of every major decision. There are some games where you wonder how the devs had the gall to charge $70 for garbage. Then there's BG3, a game that costs $60 but gives you an unquantifiable amount of value.

But it wasn’t until it was downloaded and I heard the gentle music and soft vocals on the game selection screen that I realized I was in for something special. Seriously, I listened to the music for a solid two minutes, taking in the faces of the characters I would one day grow to love and said out loud to myself “Uh oh…I think I’m REALLY going to like this game.” It surpassed my expectations.

To your comments at 12:10 and on, since release I've believed that the thing "holding" BG3 back was the 5e ruleset. after playing DOS2 and seeing what the studio is capable of creating I believe that ultimately being beholdent to WOTC actually limited the potential of BG3. Especially now with the turmoil surrounding the 2024 5e.5 revisions I think WOTC is going to need to spend some time learning from Larian. I'm honestly super excited that we are moving away from the BG series for a time and have REALLY high hopes for DOS3. As you said, with a priority for talent retention and a whole suite of improvements that went into BG3 I cant imagine DOS3 being any less of a success; save for another DOS2 "Pursuing Divinity" arc.

With the recent PCGamer article confirming that Larian WAS, in fact, working on BG4 (and even had "something playable", according to Sven) before things between them and WotC went sour, I remain hopeful that time will heal the rift and the two of them collaborate again on another D&D project. My dream is that Larian, taking all the knowledge and experience they've learned from BG3, goes on to make Neverwinter Nights 3, with a full working DM client and possibly a module creator as well. :) This kind of D&D CRPG project has not been attempted since NWN1 (NWN2 made a half-hearted attempt, but it fell far short in the DM client and module creator side of things), and I think if anybody could pull it off AND do it justice (and without poisoning the well with all kinds of predatory microtransactions and subscription/season pass tomfoolery), it would be Larian.

Excited to see what the story unfolds

Man when this game launched last year I was in the peak of my busy season so I made myself wait until the winter which is my off season to play it. I'm really glad I did because the amount of nights I would stay up until 5am playing, go to sleep, then wake up at 1-2pm and play the game all night were seemingly endless and it was a great month of vacation.

my first playthrough of bg3 was on honor mode. My friends that had already beaten the game got back on when honor mode got added so I bought the game. Playing as a barbarian, not knowing what to do other than hit shit with my sword is still one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had. I play a lot with mods now, and they add so much more variety to the game. I cant wait for official mod support. edit: yes we beat honor mode. using the steam trophies as a reference we estimated that we were at least one of the first 2000 parties to beat it.

@@Em3r1c4 vortex is the website for all bg3 mods. I use collections which are modpacks made by other people. usually I like mods that add a lot of race and class options since thats more enjoyable to me then harder enemies

Maybe you'd envy me, but I never played BG3. Watched your walkthrough, was amazed by the game and 1 year later I understand that it's finally mostly complete in technical and content sense, so one day, when I buy a solid enough PC I'll give it a try myself. Thanks, Wolf, for all your work and keeping us updated!

This is a great feelgood story about a company that treated gamers with a ton of respect. A massive game created with passion at every corner. No predatory greed or reliance on the modern business models in gaming. After playing but still not beating this massive game, I am impressed it's like games of yesteryear that didn't count on the internet to allow them to finish the game after release. I wish them luck in their next creations and will absolutely be ready to consider their next releases with interest.

BG3 is one of the few games that i actually got to play the FIRST TIME twice. Its cuz of all the massive content and the unpredictablilty of it. It never felt as if i was playing the same game. So goood! I will do my 3rd play through when mod support shows up.

Agree with your discussion around the gaming industry and how it should refocus on gamers as people, not numbers. Larian has the right attitude, as we all know, and I can only hope this spreads as people return to supporting developers who demonstrate their ethos that what is good for the gamers is the best way to make their games.

Thank you for all your AMAZING lore videos. I'm late to the game and haven't played BG3 yet, but I will soon. And your videos are really helping me understand the lore, the game and just the D&D universe (I'm new to it all but really getting into it). I've been watching a ton of your videos lately and I just want to say thank you ❤ They're great! You're really talented and a great storyteller. Keep it up!!

I'm a little late to comment this, but it was such a good "revisiting summary" video, you addressed everything, from "A" to "B" then to "C"! I found out about BG3 thanks to my friends last August and I gave it a chance last September - no regrets 😄 I can't wait to see new games Larian is working on 😍

The leadership of Larian truly seems to go above and beyond for their passion and their customers. They made a gem of a game that isn't driven by the need to make money but simply made to be fun, that's the most important aspect of a game if you find it fun to play. They also went through the trouble of making physical version of the game when they really didn't need to, just to satisfy customers, like myself, who prefer physical version of the game. I got the ps5 japanese version of the game a couple of months ago, had a blast playing it and now I'm trying to get the deluxe version so I can see just what was censored or cut out from the japanese version. And now they are going to give us mod support for the game before they move on to their next projects, so that we the players can enjoy their game however we want.

I enjoyed Baldur’s Gate 3 the same way I’ve enjoyed Dragon Age Origins, 2, Inquisition, Dragon’s Dogma 1 and 2, White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2, Diablo 2, 3 and 4, Torchlight 2, Hogwarts Legacy and Fenyx Immortal Rising. I enjoyed everything about this game, the story, the gameplay, the characters and even the dice mechanic. Sure there were some difficulty spikes, but I managed to understand a lot of the battles and choices in this game and made it through with ease. The only reason why I got this game on my PS5 was because my Uncle recommended it to me during Christmas Eve since it was one of the best games of 2023

After a year of playing and well over 1000 hours total, I gotta say Act 1 is still a masterpiece 10/10. Act 2 is an 8/10 and Act 3 is a 9/10. Character creation and fantasy immersion are both 10/10. Music is 11/10. Best game I’ve ever played.

What I love is that I’ve heard some people who just bought the game to support larian even if the game isn’t their taste. They just wanted to give them the money as a “good job being awesome to your fan base”.

Larian made BG3 in such a way that people are very willing to forgive the flaws. There are definitely flaws but the game is so much fun to play. I would be interested to see the numbers after patch 7 comes out. Official mod support, should increase the number of people playing again.

Considering some random bloke created a rogue like mode as a mod, I wish larian put in their own GM mode so people could create and share scenarios, ah well

I’ve been gaming for 25 years and without a doubt this is the greatest game I’ve ever played. I don’t even play rpgs or turn based games normally I’m a fps dude so take that for what it is. Massive probs to the devs and my only hope left is to somehow get the story of bg3 into a movie or something that would be sick
