That engine sat for decades in Coronado Park rusting away and horribly vandalized! It was moved from that park and put in a warehouse where they worked to restore it for years.
@AdricM

Warehouse is too fancy of a term, it was wide out in the open on a siding with jsut a few shipping containers for more than 10 years of the restoration, only after theves kept stealing parts and the tender was finished did they get tor build a shed over it.

@@AdricM I was a BNSF Conductor switching cars in ABQ yard and those industries on that particular siding. I didn't pay much attention at the time but I thought that engine was in a building near 8th Street in 2009.

ATSF 2926 is a sister of ATSF 3751 here in Los Angeles. The 2900 Class were built as follow-ons to the Depression Era 3700 Class, but due to wartime restrictions on lightweight alloys, the 2900s outweighed their predecessors. I doubt that 2926 was more glossy on the day she left the Baldwin works. Congratulations for putting her back into steam!

If I remember correctly, the 2900s were not given Northern boilers, but instead were given 2-10-4 Texas boilers, hence the extra weight.

@@cadenthecadburyengine8198 well, hmmmmmmmm, then why do i see Amtrak engines on some steam excursions???🤔⁉️⁉️ With some of these high speed steamers having been or being restored, wouldnt it make sense for Amtrak to do a steam excursion on a local level⁉️⁉️They might be surprised if tickets sold out quickly. 6:22 I've especially wanted to mention that I personally think that the folks over @ Baldwin Locomotive Works certainly would BASICALLY ALSO DEFINITELY be very impressed with your own official amazing job on this fine 1944 built Baldwin Northern type of steam-driven railway tender locomotive's own official restoration BEFORE she chuffs proudly straight home from its own official 1st outing to be captured on camera! By the way, you ACTUALLY must've realized that steam locomotives get a new boiler ticket every 10 years as that's basically how long a boiler ticket lasts as I personally ought know from watching another video on KZitem several times by NWR1991 titled A New Boiler For James when James the Red Engine certainly was basically due to get a new boiler as his own official previous boiler was basically just about to expire! If you're wondering what a boiler ticket is basically like, it's a certain certificate showing that the new boiler had been approved by a locomotive inspector as that occurs every 10 years precisely!

What an impressive and spectacular sight that it is to see a ATSF 2900 class locomotive back in service again after 67 years, the 2926 is a handsome example of Santa Fe rr steam power. Hopefully later this year the 2926 will be able to haul passenger excursion trains across the southwestern USA territory just like it did from 1944-1953.

Now someone call Warren Buffet and tell him that he needs some beautiful steam power running around on his mainline, with a great fleet of passenger cars. BNSF should use this locomotive to pull it’s Christmas special and veterans trains when they run . And, oh yes, a special excursion train with this or 3751 to the Grand Canyon would be a sure sellout.
