Day 280 - Nyepi Day in Bali in March, a celebration like nowhere else in the world! The day of silence, a celebration of the Saka New Year. This means that everyone on the island of Bali has to abide by local rules and tradition, which includes all routine activities to stop.
The island literally falls silent.
On Nyepi Eve, the famous Ogoh-Ogoh parade happens, where Balinese men carry scary-looking creatures of huge size through the streets. I took to the road and headed to Tanah Lot Temple before the celebrations were to commence.
At first, I was trying to avoid this day, Looking to the rest of Indonesia, thinking I would lose one day of travel. Instead, I felt so lucky to experience the hindu culture and hope I've managed to capture this experience to share. Selamat hari raya nyepi!
Locations include:
Tanah Lot,
Seminyak, Bali
