Feed them right and love them and they'll do anything they can to please you! The Amish are good at that. Especially the looking and feeding part!!

Been driving around Amish country in Lancaster and have seen a lot of hay cutting, tedding, raking and bailing. This year sure has given them some good crops. Corn and tobacco are really looking good so far nice and green and getting tall. At least when they bail the hay they don't have to worry about the bails hitting them when they are stacking the bails. I worked on a day farm when I was in my teenage years an got hit a few times from bales flying out of the bailer. But I loved working on the farm alot.

What joke the amish are not the only ones using a baler like that the old would be a hay loader pulled behind the wagon two guys would spreader hay on wagon when it is full go to barn outside pull a stack up with horse across peak of barn drop it two men spread to make what we called loose hay the baler thay are using is by far not the old fashioned way .but I wouldn't want to go back to loose hay way

Looks like they could not find a steel wheel for the pickup head. Too bad the horses have to walk directly on the windrow. That causes the leaves to fall off.

Thanks for watching. Most farms here use their draft animals very few hours each week. In fact, there are horse treadmills rented out to keep the draft animals in shape. These 4 here aren’t working that hard. Combined they can pull twice what they are pulling here. Draft horses and large mules are hugely powerful and this really isn’t working them hard.

I don't think much of these people. They use animals to pull the baler but it is powered by a motor. I think they are as bogus as a three dollar bill. I have never met any of them and hope I never do. Someone told me I should take my antique buggy to them to get it rebuilt. I would rather not get it rebuilt than have anything to do with them.

@@LancoAmish they don't believe in modern things but will use a motor on their baler. If they want to be as backwards as they pretend they should use a stationary baler powered by horses. These people ,in my opinion , are either using the system when convenient or either misguided.

Horses and mules are strong, but they are about at their limit. They are wanting to stop up that slope. Now I have to ask, what is he doing with a Case baler in New Holland country?
@LancoAmish
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The pulling limit of the 4 animals would be in the 35,000 pound range. They were pulling fully loaded around 13,000 pounds. They were actually having to be held back by the driver because the hay baler couldn’t handle the amount of hay it was feeding. One Belgian can pull 8,000 pounds and 2 can pull 22,000. Add in the 2 draft mules ( very large mules) and working as they did for 3 hours with breaks was a walk in the park.

Thanks for watching. One Belgian can pull 8,000 rolling pounds. 2 can pull 22,000 pounds. The 2 draft mules can pull in excess of 10,000 pounds between them. The fully loaded wagon, baler, and fire cart weigh in the neighborhood of 13-14,000 pounds. These 4 animals can pull somewhere in the vicinity of 32,000 pounds. 13-14,000 is an easy pull. In fact they had to be held back by the driver so they wouldn’t clog the baler by feeding too fast.

My brother used to "buck hay" when he was a teenager. I don't know how they bailed it, but boys would go out in the field and work all day. They'd lift the hay with their hands and "buck" it with their knees onto a flatbed. They got paid a few cents per bail.

Thanks for watching. Often times there is no audio with the video due to distance or in the case of drone footage there is no audio. Some shots are hundreds of yards away from the subject. I try to leave the machinery and animal sounds audible when possible. Some people enjoy the music others don’t. By putting it in those that do can listen and those that don’t can mute. Thanks for asking.

@@tinadenike2357 , one Belgian can pull 8,000 pounds, 2 can pull 22,000 pounds and the 2 mules combined can pull 10,000 or so pounds. All 4 together and you’re looking at 35,000+ pounds. A team of draft animals can pull far more weight than the sum of their individual abilities. In this video the animals are pulling, when the wagon is fully loaded, around 14-15,000 pounds. The team was being held back by the driver in order not to pull too fast and stall the baler. Please research the pulling power of Belgian horses to educate yourself before stating fiction.

We baled this way in Indiana forty years ago with the very same baler and a Ford tractor. At least the Amish have some common sense with baling hay. At least this is not destructive for the horses Now they need to stop destroying buggy horses and get their buggy culture where it belongs. In the past. They need to learn to use cars and trucks. They use all kinds of other machines. They all need indoor plumbing and pickup trucks or suv' s. The highway use of buggies and horses needs to stop. They also need to stop inbreeding so the high rate of birth defects stops. The Amish are hard- working, etc but they have several destructive practices which should end. Bad for animals and people. Keep the good and start changing away from the senseless practices such as forcing members to obey senseless rules that have nothing to do with anything constructive. Using pretty sinful music for this video, aren't you?
