Viola da gamba: has frets. Cool! That makes it easier than the unfretted members of the violin family. Has 7 strings. Um, ignore what I said about "easier". Theorbo: anagram of "o bother" - says it all. 14 strings. But they sound glorious together when played by competent players.

I can't tell if I like this or hate it. I think the music is really boring but it's played and presented so well that I'm willing to give it a chance. Which I think is largely the point, these guys are clearly trying to preserve the music pieces that aren't necessarily the most popular ones or share ones that they enjoy, and I appreciate that.

Beautiful. Passionate. Did you compose or arrange the theorbo part yourself? Or was this piece originally written for both the theorbo and the viola da gamba? Thanks for sharing!
@brandonacker
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The piece is written for viola da gamba and basso continuo. So the part I'm looking at is just a baseline with numbers above it implying chords. Each person will improvise their own "realization" sort of like jazz. So that's what I'm doing here.
