A visit to Ballykinlar History Hut which was one of the first mass internment camps established by the British authorities in Ireland to put down the War of Independence. The converted military camp held up to 2,000 Irishmen who were suspected of IRA activity between 1920 to December 1921. It earned the title "World's End" due to its lonely isolation. Mike King, Heritage Manager at Down County Museum is asked about the new Ballykinlar History Hut and how it is intended to bring the history to life as you learn of individual stories, not only from the Irish War of Independence, but also from World War One and Two as well as the Boer War. It is well worth a visit. You can find out more at the Facebook page Ballykinlar History Hut or email michael.king@nmandd.org
