Exert taken from The Reminiscences of Captain D. J. Bell of Ballynahinch, 1962, page 1. ""Here lyeth ye body of John Bel, who departed this life in ye year 1736,. . . also Sarah Bel, who departed ... Here lyeth the body of Anne Drake, alias Bel, late wife to James Drake in Belyne-hinch, who departed this life the 22 day of June, 1716, aged 20 years" The inscriptions on the tablets along the gable denoted that here are the family burying grounds of William Bell, Ballynahinch; Wm. Bell McCoubrie, The Spa, Bally-macarn; Wm. McCoubrie, Bally-nahinch, and George Burrows, Drumhill. "My great grandfather, John Bell - a grandson of the John Bell who died in 1736 - and his family sat along the back pew of the Church," Captain Bell told me, "and when the Church fell into disuse the families were buried there." Visited site last week unfortunately the "headstone in the foreground of John Bell" has been smashed and only the bottom half remains - presumably smashed pieces in grass but I didn't disturb grass to find out.

The condition of the 4 tablets along the gable looked like they had been inscribed "yesterday" (done in slate).
