love me a giant box of balsa! Look this makes a plane! Awesome! Young people today seldom experience the thrill of making a plane that flies from a box of wood...

I just ordered mine last week and I know it will be a long build. Question, what did you use for covering? Looks like you painted it. I learned to do dope when I was in collage. Do you think this will work, or to heavy? Great build video and maiden flight.

Hey Pete, i used Black Solartex for this DR-1. The graphic are all hand painted. They no longer sell solartex, you would have to use Oratex and paint it. I paint my models with Latex paint from Home Depot.

Awesome build ! Just the right level of detail. Where did you get your dummy engine? Was that from Arizona also?
@kennyh345

Dummy engine was 3D printed by Dag Attwood, he no longer sells them.

Great video and really nice looking triplane! I'd like to build a DR-1 after I finish my Proctor 28 C-1. Do you recommend the Balsa USA kit over other DR-1 kits? What were the pluses and minuses of the kit? Thanks

Correction: after I finish my Proctor Nieuport 28 C-1.

Hey Bill, I cant comment on other DR-1 kits but I really like the BUSA kit. The kit comes together quickly and the manual is easy to follow. she flies great!

Also what size battery pack, did you use two receivers, ie one for the wing and one for fuse?
@kennyh345

I’m using 2-2500 batteries on a smart fly and one receiver. I ran servo wires up along the cabanas and painted them black

Is the cowl after market and if so from which company, how much ballast did you add? Thanks
@kennyh345
4 жыл бұрын
The cowl is from Arizona Models and its aluminum. gives the plane a more scale outline. I built a shelf over the motor and was able to balance the plane with just under 3 pounds of lead.

I added a baffle to direct the air down over the cylinders.
