A Middle Eastern stew prepared with okra, beef, tomatoes and onions as main ingredients.
It is also popular among the Malay/Arab community in Malaysia and Singapore, usually served with rice or bread during family gatherings.
Bamia simply means okra or lady's finger, a vegetable commonly found in warm and tropical countries. It is rich in anti oxidants, magnesium, folate, and Vitmins A,B6,C and K.
Okra tends to get slimy when cooked. To prevent this, fry in oil or roast in the oven until cooked.
Ingredients for Bamia:
400 grams beef
300 grams okra
2 medium sized tomatoes, diced
2 medium sized onions, sliced
3 tablespoons meat curry powder
3 tablespoons tomato paste/puree
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
200 ml milk
250 ml water salt, sugar
1 teaspoon chicken powder
