Kanami did indeed take up tapping after watching Eruption and practised until her fingers bled. EVH is one of her guitar heroes and Kanami sent a sweet message of condolence on EVH's death. 'Dear Eddie Van Halen... I learned about tapping through Eruption, and I was hoping that I would one day be able to create those heart-piercing phrases in instrumental songs. My beloved guitar hero... May he rest in peace. May he rest in peace.'

Don't know how I made it over 5 years into being a Maidiac without knowing this story, but it's a goodie. I would think that the most difficult thing about tapping like this is being rhythmically "in the pocket" and not having it sound sloppy.

I don't care much about technical ability. But when you combine really good song writing with technical ability, and still have it be very accessible, well that's just magic! As a half Japanese American, I never ever thought my favorite rock bamd in the future would be Japanese women. I especially never thought they would be so loved by non-Asian Americans since they don't sing in all English. Growing up, I think most wouldn't even have given groups a chance if they weren't in English. It's nice to see the country a little more accepting and respectful towards other countries and cultures. We still got a ways to go tho!😂🤘

Well said! I’ve heard numerous “guitar gods” play amazingly well in songs that are, ultimately, forgettable. Everything else is an afterthought. Window dressing for the virtuoso player. Kanami no doubt cannot do all the tricks and techniques they do (though she is highly skilled) but I’d rather listen to her play any day of the week. It’s interesting, memorable, and is an integral part of great songs in which all members are equally important, and no-one hogs the limelight.

@BeardedDragonsDen definitely, but back in the day, not a single American radio station would even consider playing a non-english song! Ok, they did play Feliz Navidad!😂

Again, Kanami puts aside her ego to best serve the song. She is a virtuouso composer who is always interested in the contributions her bandages can add to the songs, that,I believe, is why Band-Maid music is so memorable even though Kanami doesn't have the longer solos other lead guitarists have to show off their technical superiority.

@user-fd9ds6gh4q I always thought Kanami wasn't loud enough on their live mixes. I'm beginning to think she prefers it that way! Another thing I noticed that no one brings up is kneeling when someone is soloing. In the Hate? live MV, Kanami walks up to Misa just when she's about to solo. As soon as she reaches Misa, she kneels. When it's Kanami's turn, Misa kneels. Such a Japanese thing to do!

Band-Maid always brings an ONSET of love, appreciation and happiness to their viewers. Why? Because they're so damn good -- good-natured, good-hearted, good-looking, and beyond good as writers, players and performers. Wow, right?! Thx, B-Drag!

Miku does not get enough credit. When Kanami is tapping, Miku is underneath her putting out a strong rythem line. The Maids rock!

Kanami started on piano when she was young, but switched to guitar in high school. Akane and MISA met when they attended to the Tokyo School Of Music. Miku couldn't even play guitar when she formed the band, but it was either learn or hire a sixth member, so she had Kanami teach her how to play. If you look in their first Music Video she just holding it as a prop.

This was the first Band Maid song I ever listened/watched and I was stunned into silence. I'm 77 and have heard them all and this is the best rock instrumental I've heard since the days of The Ventures, The Tornados, The Rip Chords here in the US and The Shadows from England. When Kanami did her solo the Southern Rock just burst from her and I could picture up there next to Gary Rossington and the rest of Lynynrd Skynyrd. If you want to hear something heavier as respects an instrumental, react to the music video of "From Now On", it's one of Kanami's most masterful compositions that encompasses many styles and genres in one song.

On June 12, 2024, BAND-MAID performed a joint concert with Mexican girl rock band The Warning in Roppongi, Tokyo, and at the end of the show, all eight members of both bands performed a new song called Shoew Them. "Show Them" was created jointly with BAND-MAID during TheWarning's visit to Japan. BAND-MAID and The Warning are fans of each other and met at 2022,10/10 Aftershock Festival in the US and have been good friends ever since. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0YqqrmygqKyjhIY

I consider "From Now On" a serious HARD ROCK instrumental, I consider "Onset" a joyous romp by the Maids. I always brings a smile to my face when I hear it and I believe it did the same to you. Actually, everyone who hears this song probably smiled at least once during it.

I've never known a band that has 130+ songs and find it extremely hard to find a favorite. My top 5 has 30 or 40 in it and the no.1 changes daily ... an that's after listening to these guys daily for 4 years..

A couple of their slower songs, if there is such a thing with these Rock and Roll Legends, are Daydreaming and Bestie (very recent release). Both of them shows off a much different side, while being 100% Band Maid. Check it out when you get the time.
