The reason the bass didn't stand out as much in their older stuff was Misa was playing a Fender J Bass, which she said really didn't suit her style. She had the black bass she's playing here made by a company called Black Cloud, it's a prototype called the "Black Smoker" with onboard preamps, so she's much more comfortable with it now and it projects much better through her setup, which is an Orange guitar head into an Ampeg bass cab.

you guys should always put on both earbuds when listening to their live clips because the lead and rhythm guitars sounds are often separated into 2 channels.

Get over the Japanese lyrics. Listen to Saiki’s vocals and how well she sings.

For $2.50 you can buy a headphone splitter on eBay. On this modern stereo recording, as with all Band-Maid songs, Kanami's guitar is thrown hard right and can barely be heard in the left ear, while the rhythm guitar is opposite. Are you mixing your headphones in mono so you can hear all of the instruments? Sorry, but this is just a pet peeve of mine.

I hear a lot of this, why do you listen to Japanese bands if you don't understand the words. Then you find out that the person likes Rammstein without speaking German or opera with any knowledge of Italian or Spanish. It comes down to Japanese is a langauge your not used to hearing, but as you start to hear more Japanese songs it does not seam so strange and so start to notice the different styles more.

Misa palms the pick seamlessly when she slaps and it drops back into her fingers when she goes back to picking.

Misa (bass) picks, fingers and slaps when the songs require it. Even if she has to do all three in the same song :D. I've never seen another bassist do that. You have to really watch careful to catch her pocketing the pick ;).

Nice review! Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid. But here’s the thing… when you go into a beautiful forest saturated with huge ferns and giant redwoods, or witness whispering clouds shrouding a golden setting sun in the tropics, you are moved, in part, by the vast array of colors and alluring shapes interspersed within the foreground and background. Sure, you can cover one eye with a black and white filter and still see. But what’s missing is the terabytes of richness contained within the depth of field… the expansiveness and awe one experiences when getting the full-color picture. In other words, you can see but you are not overtaken by the true vision the creator(s) worked hard to engineer. Same for 1-channel or mono earbuds… buds. Next time please try a couple of good headsets set to "Stun", IMHO ofc. :-)

Google: Jimmy Page requested and got a picture with drummer Akane. Too me, the guy with the glasses looks and sounds like Eric Clapton.

Another nice reaction guys. I was there in San Francisco last Nov. and they killed it. I'm an old time rocker, so that is high praise from me. And as to understanding the lyrics, I was a DJ for .. decades.. and cannot read a lick of music. Couldn't tell you what note or cord was played, but as long as it sounds great, I don't need to. Same for the vocals. The human voice is the greatest instrument there is. That is how I relate to non-English speaking bands I enjoy. And you will know what this means as you follow them... MISA! MISA! MISA! (the bassist)

You guys, just go buy a 3.5mm spliter for $2.50 on Amazon. Seriously, you are missing whole left and right channel. Their music are very channel centric. You are really missing stuff.

As you say, how good the musicianship is makes them successful internationally. How many half dressed girl bands come and go once the one or two hits have passed and people realise the talent is just not there.
