I completely agree. They continue to carry out epic experiments with their talent. Let's watch. And let's support.

I appreciate you for getting it, dude. It’s not like the vast majority of their material in its easy going cadences and tone. But it’s still got that Band Maid Gold Standard quality composition and performance! 💪🏻🤘🏻

Nice reaction dude. This song to me just goes to prove that these girl are willing to try new things, and do them well, and that is to be applauded, regardless of liking it or not. Keep up the good work !

It's fair to say this song divides opinions. If I remember correctly, Kanami wrote it while having a bit of writers' block, and wanted to try something different. Even if it's too light/soft for many, few don't recognise the quality of the writing and performance. And who doesn't like that penultimate line?

@RevStickleback, you are correct! The video itself is a metaphor as to what Kanami was feeling at the time! The band got together to support their genius guitarist, start over was born

Nice to see someone enjoy diversity of music. I find Start Over a very easy song to listen too. It does have a nice jazz flare . As far as the haters go. Just need to get over it. Band Maid will do what Band Maid wants to do in order to move forward , and keep their music fresh and fun.

This was the first one I saw from Band-Maid. I'd been watching some Babymetal to brighten my day. I had NO idea up to that point that there was any Asian music that wasn't manufactured Idol music coming out over there (I lived in Taipei back in the 90s and got really turned off by the music scene). So when Akane started off on the Hihat and laying down a a killer grove I was truly surprised. Wasn't exactly the hard/classic rock of my youth, but the chorus kicked it up and DAMN, right back to that groove at which point I noticed how perfect the bass line was with the drums. What a Rhythm section! How could I not click on the next suggestion from them: Thrill! OH! What is THIS?! They ROCK?! OK! I'm on board. And then, the third song, Real Existence. I think I must have cried. What a Drummer! It has been so long since I found a new drummer that inspired me to go back and practice instead of just sort of play along with the same old stuff I'd grown up with 30 or 40 years ago. And god damn! She was all over those drums. And it was only a 4 piece kit! When I had my acoustics it was 9 pieces, sometimes 10. Clearly I'd been doing it wrong. I'd already been pondering what I'd do if I were to get another acoustic kit (I've got a Roland TD-30 currently) and her 5 piece was much matched what I was thinking in tom placement and cymbal layout. I just had not imagined how intrinsic double pedals should be on such a kit. I bought the VIP early entry tickets the last time they were in LA. I had planned telling her "I play drums too!" and showing her pictures of my kit to make sure she understood. I got as far as saying "I Play drums too!" when she let out a a little girl squeal and exaggerated show of excitement that made me feel like a creepy old man, so I ran away. Which was a pity. My buddy that was with me speaks good Japanese (he lived there for a good long time) and we could have had some conversation. He had stopped at Kanami to wish her a happy birthday and talk about guitars (he played professionally when he lived in Japan).

It's nice you tried this one. Lot people don't like it because is softer and more on their pop side, but I thinks this song is great, it shows their versatility. They can do song that can go hard, heavy and soft with the same quality, just with other accents on their music. At least for me, bands like this can trascend time because they can appeal to different emotions. There're other songs that break their commonly hard and fast tunes, but they're amazing, try these ones: -Bubble: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tZWGvYWqnGmriaw (I like the soulful solo in this one) -matchless GUM: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0GydzWWtpqV_pHY

A song a few fans were not as pleased with....yet, I think this was the song where Saiki had a chance to expand her vocal range and style a bit. Which in the long run was a great thing for the music the followed...

It was sort of a callback to their first album, which was more pop rock. Not sure why people were freaking out, thinking they were changing direction. It was a single and the other song was Screaming, hardly a huge departure from their usual sound.

I actually like this and I hope they continue to experiment as that shows they’re daring to take risks to improve and are not complacent with their current success and won’t just dish out one similar sounding track after the other just coz it sells. Honestly most of the ones who complain might very well be the first ones to move on from the band coz they eventually grew tired of the same old shit. I have honestly never understood fans that lash out on artists just because they changed. Even a stone will change over time, no less a human and all the moreso an artist afterall art is all about creating something out of your imagination. Its almost impossible for a musician to write the same kind of songs for the rest of their life unless, 1) They don’t write it themselves but get others to write the same stuff that worked once. 2) They’ve completely lost all motivation to make anymore progress as an artist. 3) They’re an A.I. never ages and will remain as consistent as the program code...

A very simple example of Miku's conception of the gap. First time you heard this you didn't expect that, did you? "I don't give a fuck people, ok?" Saiki sings it but it is Miku speaking quite clearly. Viva Band-Maid.

I don't think the controversy about this song should revolve around it's sound, tone, or vibe. If there would be any controversy about this song I would figure it would be centered around the last line of the song "I don't give a fuck, be born again" can easily be misheard as "I don't give a fuck, people are gay". That could have many different connotations, that they're either using the word "gay" as meaning stupid, or that they have an extremely progressive view on homosexuality. If the latter is the case then that makes them even braver for not only taking a musical risk, but a political one, as many cultures stkll see this view as too progressive. The song itself is very well written, and has an extremely uplifting vibe just as the rest of their heavier material. For the most part their music has always have an uplifting, positive vibe underlying even their heaviest of songs. So to say that this song is a controversy because of its lighter, more melodic structure speaks more to the narrow mindedness of the haters of this song versus whether or not this song is a "sellout" moment.

People tend to hear what they want to hear, especially when they bring their lame-ass interpretations of what Japanese people sound like speaking English. BTW, have you ever noticed how lame-ass most Americans sound speaking Japanese? I have. LOL
