My Dad flew that night in a C47 in the invasion and went all the way through to the occupation of Germany. War ended,he thought he was on his way to the Pacific. Lost him in the year of 2000 at the age of 85.He was a great Dad to our family. He had five children. He never would talk about it. To this day, I am 68 years old and I can remember the bad dreams he would have at night. All of us would go in there and surround him and hold him tight. At that time he was just a kid on an plane. His country called and he ansered.I write this as a tribute to him,my dad.

I've remembered what Ambrose, the author of Band of Brothers, said once in an interview that a lot of these men were just young kids. They were. I just cannot begin to think of how D-Day actually went down and was for those actually there. This scene is so powerful and the score makes it more so. Truly a great generation of Americans the likes we will never see again, ever. They gave their all and sacrificed everything and it Just amazes me what these young men did. They will all soon be gone forever. Never forgotten though.

Yes, they were extraordinary people and, speaking for myself, I feel forever indebted to them for their courage and sacrifice. It is such a moving scene--very understated and quietly done--no theatrics, no macho speeches-- but very intense. Seeing their worried faces, the terrible fear they must have felt, and the sturdy C-47s lift off one by one into the skies heading towards France and absolute hell. It's quite an incredible moment.

This is anything many Millennials won't be. These men were about my age in one of the darkest times in History: they walked through hell and came back as heroes, saving the generations to come. I rewatch BoB every 12-18 months to remind me what some people did, so that I may sit and watch a TV show when I please....

3:40 there goes the bravest generation of their time, off into the night both air and sea in order to save the world and into history in the making as the rest of the world quietly watched and waited for the outcome. God bless these brave souls.

I feel pride every time I see that invasion fleet and aircraft at the end of this scene. Its like watching the hammer of allied forces about to break down the wall of the german army

My British mother was home on leave from the RAF in Southampton and in the middle of the night on June 5th 1944 100's of USAAF planes passed over the city heading for France. The whole neighborhood was out in the street she said it was an awesome sight. Everyone knew, the day had finally come, the invasion was on.

I have walked among the crosses in the graveyard at Normandie. So many young men, doing their best, died pretty much on the same day. I thought I was fairly hard. But man, I was reduced to tears that day walking among those crosses.. The enormity!!!! You come away with such a feeling of respect. It may sound strange, but if you are ever close to Omaha, make the effort to visit these YOUNG men. you WILL come away with a different perspective on life.
