He definitely had a distinctive sound that was immediately identifiable as Flock of Seagulls. There’s also a kind of magic that happens when he tears into those synth-backed power chords. For those of us who lived through those early days of M Tv, Flock of Seagulls’ music transports you right back to the halcyon days of the early 80s.

As a rock guitar player, I first scoffed at the guitarist being referred to as a “guitar whiz”.... but watching their performance, that guy really was ahead of his time. If it helped heal old wounds and reestablish contact between them as friends/family alone then this was so worthwhile, good on vh1 for facilitating it and making it happen! It was something to see them all reunite with one another. Mike's seemingly reticence towards the guys as they came in was not ego so much, IMO, but it seemed territorial. Like he was protecting something. Perhaps his place in the band. But it was sad that he could not just jump in and embrace the guys. But each person responds to the past in their own way. That said: They were amazing. "And I Ran…" is an iconic 80's hit. It takes me back to the Lower East Side and dancing all night at the Berlin Club. Wow! Thank you guys! And yes, Paul is an amazing guitarist.

When I look at this band from this angle, the one word that sticks out: Balance. Mike and Ali are just like Frank said, the typical "glass half-full/glass half-empty". Opposites, but still part of the same glass. Frank was the comic relief who did his best to make sure things never got too serious. Initially, Mike's ego wouldn't let him admit openly how he missed everyone. Ali wanted to go back and feel what it was like to have crowds screaming for you again. Frank wanted to party and have fun. But, their concern about Mike was ever-present. They wanted to know he was all right before they did this, and I think Mike might have been feeling a little guilt for not being able to handle it. Even more than the Kajagoogoo reunion, I think these four mates all needed this, because, deep down, they all wanted it. It's hard for me to believe it's over 40 years since "I Ran" debuted...I was 18. Damn.

If Frank Maudsley was not a member, we would never have seen that. He was the ice breaker, the circuit breaker, even stiff face Mike Score couldn't help smiling at Maudsley's demeanour which just changed the room. Enjoyable as it was, I can see why the other 3 have no desire to continue with Mike who I think has a higher opinion of himself and his ability than what others do of him. Regardless, it was good to see that 4 people could sit down after 20 years and put problems aside for one night. I think all bands that have made a good living from fans should be prepared to do that as a minimum to say thanks for buying the albums and tickets etc.

Just bury the hatchet and get back to making kick ass music before it becomes too late. Life is too damned short to let petty trivialities come between making awesome music. @@supertrooper7403 Typical Yank attitude. I say that even as a Yank myself, though I realized years ago that we are far from superior. It's actually a bit sad to hear the transformation, at least in his voice, and yet see the narcissism still in full force.

Some of my fondest memories of my early childhood were watching videos of these guys on MTV when my parents first got cable TV. Even if the show was filmed a few years ago it still shows that if the chemistry is there the band can still exist.

Notice how well the band ,except Mike ,gets along as each of them walk into the room. He just sits there, giving out half-assed handshakes and hugs. Even Mike's own brother was snubbed with a weak hug and then ignored while he messed around on the keyboard. Their mother died a while ago. Hopefully this brought them closer. But,yeah, get rid of Mike and make your own band, guys. The magic is still there.

Excellent Video! Thank You for bringing this to us! This is one of my favourite bands and I wasn't even into New Wave. That's how good they are.

What a great episode, could just tell that all of them needed that, even the mom who had a chance to see her two sons back together, if even for just that one evening.

A little tension between the brothers but when Frank walked in I knew it was going to be all good. Paul was the icing on the cake. Time to rock n roll.
