Funny how as lifelong Foo Fighters' fan, One by One is my favorite album. Just like Wasting Light, is a masterpiece that saved the band and revigorated their relationship. Low, All My Life and Times Like These are all-time classics. By the way, Times Like These is the song that changed Dave Grohl's mind about a possible band breakup by ins own words.

I “knew” of the Foo Fighters seeing their videos on MTV. But in spring 2003 my best friends girlfriend gave me her copy of One by One and the became my favorite band because of that album. Love the whole thing. But especially Times Like These and the progression of the final three tracks right in order. Wasting Light is also way up there for me. But One by One just narrowly edges it out because of the nostalgia and how that’s where it all started for me. I lent One by One to my mom after I listened to it religiously for 6 months straight and she became a huge fan of them too.

Personally, while the album is my second-least-fave album from the Foos (with 2021's 'Medicine at Midnight' being my least fave of theirs), it still had many great moments. 'Times Like These,' 'Low', 'Have It All' and 'Come Back' are some of my all time favorite Foos tracks. 'Come Back' with its lengthy and progressive structure, being the longest song the band ever recorded at nearly 8 minutes, acts as a powerful and poignant closer, and is one of their most underrated songs in my opinion. And who doesn't love 'Times Like These?' The thread of its late addition to the record could really be credited to saving the band, and with its 7/4 time signature and catchiness made it one of their most memorable songs. The thing that holds the album back for me is poor writing such as on 'Lonely As You', one of my least favorite Foo Fighters songs, and the rather horrible production, with horrible distortion and clipping/peaking present on every track

If the strongest tracks on those albums were combined and the bad songs swapped for classic B-Sides like Stay Young, Let’s All Make Believe and Flashbax, then it would have been on par with Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory and Oasis would be considered one of the top five greatest bands of all time. I personally really like Satanic Majesty. It's not the greatest Stones album, nor is it a great overview of who they are or were as a band, but it's just so weird and out there that it's just a lot of fun to listen to. The Rolling Stones take on psychedelia was so different to everyone else's. 2000 Light Years From Home could feature on the soundtrack to a horror film, it does such a good job of building an atmosphere of isolation, loneliness and increasing terror. Then there's the fun stuff like Sing This Song All Together and She's A Rainbow. There's also a non album single from that era called Dandelion which I think is one of the best things they ever did.

Todd in the Shadows has a pretty good video on this album. The main problem seems to have been their manager, Bernie Rhodes. Joe was very unsure of himself, at this point I believe he had started to question his decision to fire Mick. Plus the fact that the new guys felt a little intimidated joining such an established and prominent band. They were the newbies and in their minds they had little to say in the creation process of at least half of the well-oiled machine The Clash once was. It just kind of gave Bernie free rule to take over and ruin things. If you listen to any live recordings of the songs the would make onto Cut the Crap, they sound completely different and more in line of what Joe was talking the album up to be. It's actually quite a sad end to such an important band

Kurt didn't really "hate" Nevermind. I think he was insecure about it and felt it was too commercial-sounding for them, partly because of his cynicism toward the big rock bands of the time, and him growing to resent the success of SLTS. The Motley Crue comment was probably a bit tongue-in-cheek. In Utero was sort of a protest in how rough it was, but they had more or less been wanting to do an album like In Utero since before Bleach, but didn't feel they had a shot at getting Albini. In an interview with Krist on the day of the Live and Loud concert, he said that he liked how In Utero turned out, but part of him wished it sounded a bit more like Nevermind did, so they didn't all feel the same way.

Kraftwerk has openly disowned their early pre-Autobahn albums. They remain central gold standards in the history of Krautrock. But they go against their overall identity as godfathers of electronic music.

Another one that nobody's mentioning, Reinventing The Steel by Pantera, because the Abbott Brothers, and, Rex were at the end of the ropes with Phil, because of addiction, and doing his takes in New Orleans instead of in Texas, and ultimately was the album that broke up the band.....

I'm surprised the Foo Fighters hated "One By One". The singles they put out, "All My Life" and "Time Like These", are great songs, and among the best rock songs of the 2000s.

Just throw this out there... Rolling Stone magazine being a literary magazine, most likely got their name from the saying "a rolling stone gathers no moss" in which Muddy Waters used the saying to write the song "Rollin' Stone" in which inspired The Rolling Stones to name themselves after.

There are quite a few good tracks on It's Hard: Eminence Front, One Life's Enough, Dangerous, I've Known No War and A Man Is A Man are all solid tunes. And unlike Face Dances, where they sound like they're really trying to sound like The Who, It's Hard feels much more adventurous. It's not a great album by a long shot but I don't think it's that bad either.

5:00 actually, he is right. He did play All My Life multiple times in fact, as it is one of their most popular songs, but the other ones... yeah, not really.

One By One...has always been my fav Foos album.....though maybe Im bias as I was around 14 at the time and it was my intro to them....but I also think it was genuinely the most "rock n roll" album as well because it had that hard party carnality about it (which was a big plus for me) thats probably half the reason why they were at each others throats during recording as much as they were. I can just picture that being a time where Dave Grohl was meeting up with Jack Black and Joss Homme and the like....and them being all out of their box 😂

Pete Townshend alternately loves and hates EVERYTHING he does. he has even had a thing to say about Tommy on occasion. (only Lifehouse has stayed in his good books- the non-album that he admits was/is untenable - he chases ideas, and unattained is always attractive). but yeah, It's Hard was pretty mehhhh

I don't know that ALL successful musicians are perfectionists. Neil Young cuts his records more or less live & is well-known for not only leavin bum notes & botched chords in his records, but actually cherishing them because they capture a MOMENT. Listen to the song "Mellow My Mind"-- when he sings "ain't got nothin on those feelings..." he goes way beyond his upper range limit & his voice cracks & almost breaks up completely. Any other artist would have demanded another take. & yet it's the most emotionally powerful moment on all of the "Tonight's the Night" LP, which is a HEAVY emotional record from front to back. 🦃

Great video! 'Be Here Now' was the sound of a cocaine habit and ego and was terrible even when it came out. David Bowie hated his mid 80"s albums, especially 'Never Let Me Down', to the point that having them rerecorded and mixed was one of his posthumous wishes.

Be Here Now is what happens when a band tries to make an album as overblown and over-the-top as possible. The album was way too long and the production was noisy as Oasis cranked everything up to eleven. There are a few tracks I like on it, but it's definitely (maybe) my least favorite '90s Oasis album. I sort of get why the Rolling Stones don't like Their Satanic Majesties Request looking back on it, but on this album they did a pretty good job trying their hand at psychedelic rock. "She's A Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years From Home" are two of my favorite Rolling Stones tracks.

Celtic Frost's "Cold Lake" has been called an "abomination" on the band's own website, plus has never been reissued making it very rare and pricey. Killing Joke's "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" and "Outside the Gate" were recorded during a very turbulent period for the band, and none of the songs from either album are performed live anymore. BTATS isn't a bad album if you listen to the Chris Kimsey mixes, but OTG is extremely inconsistent considering it was never intended to be a Killing Joke album at all. On that vein, Genesis can't stand both their first album ("From Genesis to Revelation") or their last ("Calling All Stations"). The first album was recorded when the band were still teenagers, and it's more a Jonathan King album considering he produced it and added a lot of these orchestral elements that date the album to the late 1960s, plus it doesn't help that the songs are just not there yet. It's small wonder that the band has never tried to buy back the rights to the masters after all these decades. As for "Calling All Stations", it's plainly obvious that the band had no idea what direction they wanted to go in. There are hints of their prog past sprinkled here and there, but they still wanted to be the hitmakers that they were when Phil Collins was the frontman, and it just doesn't work. Ray Wilson gets too much flack: he's honestly not a bad singer (there is a video floating around on KZitem of him singing the title track during a solo performance a few years back, and it's genuinely pretty good), but he's the first person mentioned when people talk about how bad this album is. The rest of the band, meanwhile, knew this album was bad, to the point that the songs are never performed anymore, the album is rarely reissued, and they never recorded another studio album in the over 25 years since its release.

Satanic Majesties is a good album, marred by two crap tracks (Sing This Song All Together). And if they put the single of Dandelion and We Love You on it instead, it would have been an all time great. On the other hand, Beggar's Banquet is overrated. Mick and Keith are often not the best judges of their own material.
