Our last leg of our Rockies Trip ended in a 2 hour scenic drive from Banff to Calgary Airport. We took a scenic route on Bow Valley Parkway.
To take the Bow Valley Parkway, you'll need to exit Banff on Banff Avenue/Highway 1A, heading east. This road eventually becomes the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) and follows a picturesque route parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1).
The route passes through the picturesque town of Canmore, Kananaskis, Ghost Lake, Cochrane.
While the Bow Valley Parkway does have some services, they are more limited compared to the Trans-Canada Highway. It's a good idea to ensure you have enough fuel, snacks, and other necessities before embarking on the drive. Additionally, check the road conditions and closures before you go, as the Bow Valley Parkway may occasionally close due to wildlife activity or maintenance.
Overall, the drive from Banff to Calgary via the Bow Valley Parkway offers a slower, more scenic alternative to the main highway, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the Canadian Rockies and potentially spot wildlife along the way.
