The battery code is C129D3, I chose a 3400mAh version so I'd get longer play time. There weren't many available that would ship to Australia at the time so I didn't have much choice in sellers. And my device did the same thing, the light just didn't come on one time when I tried to charge it.

@@ImpactBlue85 thanks again for your reply and interesting yours did the same. I've opted for the same one. I think it cost around $42 but will take 3 weeks or so to arrive. It's a damn shame that such a reputable company as BO can't improve the life of their batteries.

I didn't put a link to the battery in as the sellers often change, meaning the link would be useless. Also they don't all ship to the same countries - it's just easier to search Amazon for the battery code.

You'll need a 9V Quick charger to do it properly, because the speaker have a 7.2V battery and a regular charger puts out only 5V, no matter how many amps. Otherwise you'll damage the battery faster, because basically you never fully charge it!
@ImpactBlue85
4 жыл бұрын
The replacement 3400mAh is 7.4, the original 2200mAh was 7.2. Either way though, the 9V adaptive fast chargers that come with most phones these days are the best option for battery longevity.
@edewar6004

Alex the input voltage does not need to be the same as output voltage. The stated input voltage is 5v at up to 3A. It's designed to work with standard usb chargers, hence the inclusion of a USB cable but not a charger. It will charge fully with a usb charger of less than 3 amps, it will just take longer. The reason battery life is so crap is that the speaker chucks out a lot of deep bass for the size, so the 2x 18650 cells are wired in series rather than in parallel to give the extra power needed. Of course this means that the battery capacity is the same as one of the cells only - in this case only 2200mah, which was already pretty low by the time the A1 got released.
@edewar6004
4 жыл бұрын
@@ImpactBlue85 2200 mah was always too low a capacity for playing the speaker at high volume. It's annoying how disingenuous b&o were with advertising a 24hr battery on this speaker! Still 3400mah should make a good difference. If you wouldn't mind could you unwrap the original battery pack and get the serial number from one of the cells? I'd like to get the specs of them to ascertain the discharge rate. No worries if you don't have the time though, I appreciate it's a bit of an ask!
@ImpactBlue85

@@edewar6004 100%, it's always frustrating, but I went into it knowing i'd get about 5 hours max. And that's pretty much all I ever got. The new battery is yet to go flat and I had it playing for about 14 hours over the weekend, so i'm not sure yet! Luckily I kept the old one so I just pulled it apart, it has 2x ICR18650 22FM (Samsung, but i'm guessing that doesn't matter). Hope that helps.
@edewar6004

@@ImpactBlue85 Ah great, that's really helpful, thank you! I'm not up on electronics much but I wasn't quite sure the replacements I had in mind would handle the 2x30w peak amplifiers, but mine are at least as high drain rate as those original cells so they'll be fine! Apparently the original spec sheet for those cells dates from 2008 so they are quite an old design. I know that some stuff is already a bit behind the times by the time production stage is reached but I really think that b&o could have done better with the cells in this case, especially considering the markup on b&o products!

If the battery fails just after couple of years, that's actually pretty abysmal. I have a launch day JBL Charge 3, which probably loses to this B&O device in sound quality, but for a device bought in 2016 or 2017, it still has enough battery life left in it to be useful in 2022.
