My grandfather used to own one of these up until 2019. It was bright red and used to be the main living room tv up until a big house renovation that happened around 2008. He now has a Loewe LCD tv. The B&O Had a built in analogue satellite tuner as well as, of course, Scart. It was a great looking thing. To use it I had to always squeeze one side of the screen just a little to make the power come on. Up until 2012 it genuinely was used as a secondary tv to use when we were at my grandpa's. RIP Analogue Sat-TV. After that it sat around unused. One day I decided to bring an RF Modulator and some other adapter stuff over to try and get a new(ish) digital receiver running. I firstly tried the Scart input but that only caused some rather interesting glitches. So then I jumped over to modulating the Scart Signal into an analogue tv signal and tuned the tv to it. It miraculously worked. That gave my grandpa enough motivation to give it to a (sadly now defunct) repair shop to get the SCART working again. They actually got him a new old stock Interface board to replace the one inside with. But not too long after they replaced it (and it did work!!) it finally went pop and was called a loss. Such great times I had... I somehow always liked that thing. It's great seeing you documenting it so well! I feel like I want to go look for one, make it look nice and fancy, and gift it to my grandpa again. Just for the memories...

@@rgbrob it definitely still would fit in with the decor he has upstairs. It genuinely looks like an old high-grade HiFi magazine up there... absolutely gorgeous, actually. The late 80s, early 90s high value West-German design really resonates with me for some reason... it's all so... artsy... a B&O TV would just ROCK in there once more. I genuinely asked myself if it would be possible to somehow squeeze a digital tuner in there. It'd probably use a normal AV input but I've seen some absurdly small DVB-S2 tuners out there. You could probably fit the screw terminal where the original analogue one was placed if it's possible to remove the analogue tuner. Then it would be as simple as feeding a video signal to one of the inputs internally and getting an IR receiver in the front for the digital stb inside. If I had the financial resources and CRT expertise (aka not dying of an electric shock) I'd totally love to do that one day. Going on a nostalgia trip and bringing it into the 21st century once more...!

Loving the history segments. Got a couple MX7000 at home. Both waiting to be serviced properly. One has its contrast screen chipped on the side sadly. I'm torned between trying to fix the glass screen or just leaving the tv without it, it just doesn't look beautiful... Aside from that both sets work well enough, but i don't have much free time to enjoy them.

A very well-researched video! Yes, the dreaded ICC5; enough to make even the seasoned repair tech break out in to a cold sweat! They were more commonly found in Ferguson-badged TV's here in the UK, which, I guess you could say was the poor man's B&O. I don't think many survived, as I rarely saw them on the second-hand market (unlike the older Thorn 'TX' range). B&O's in-house chassis designs were very interesting, though service data for them was quite scarce; naturally all servicing work being carried out by B&O and their authorised agents. Some TV repair shops would refuse to take them on due to this (unless it was something simple like those horrid plastic-encased Roederstein caps that liked to dry-out and/ or fail short!). I recall around that time (mid-eighties), we instead opted for one of the first large-screen stereo 28" FST sets to market, which was manufactured by Finnish company, Salora. The set also employed a Videocolor tube; in fact it was the exact same type that was fitted to the Hantarex Polo/ MTC arcade monitor chassis. Excellent results for a domestic receiver with an RGB capable SCART. Happy days! :')

My friend had a scart Ferguson back in the 90s here in Australia, very uncommon brand here. Interesting that you never saw many on the 2nd hand market in the UK. Annoying that manufacturers kept their servicing knowledge so in house. The Salora you mention sounds sweet as!
@Oldgamingfart

@@rgbrob Yes the Salora was before they merged into the ITT Nokia group of companies. It was dealer upgradable with 'option boards'. For example: NTSC 3.58; SECAM; FM Tuner; Free-To-Air analogue satellite; NICAM; Teletext, etc. All of which could be added at a later date (or specced at the time of purchase). In a lot of ways, taking a leaf out of B&O's book! European electronics at the time was totally state-of-the-art. It's a shame it's all gone, but that's the price of globalisation and 'market forces' for you! Still, we can continue to be inspired and admire the creativity behind it, as reflected in the sheer classiness of the products from that era.

Thanks for the tip! I think I've actually checked that forum. The boards on the mx8000 are a little different. Believe it or not I actually purchased a similar board from a 32 inch wide-screen model and swapped the flyback from mine out. My tube and flyback work. I've checked every obvious component and even swapped components out from the working chassis to mine. All to no avail. There are so many little ICs on those boards it's ridiculous. So it could literally be anything. Without a schematic or service manual it's next to impossible.

Hello. I have a beovision mx5000 and it too has corrosion in, on and around the battery on that teletext card, and on the other battery too. Also due to the bad state of the corrision, the battery solder points are loose. My guess is that this is the reason why I can't see any info/text on the screen. No volume bars, no channel or source info, no menu etc. What do you or anyone else think? I've cleaned it and it no longer smells like something is burning. However, now it emits another smell. A kind of stingy electronic smell that really fills the entire room after some 20 mins. Could it be those leaking batterys or something else? Anyone have a clue? Cheers.

I prefer curved tubes to flat tubes. The B&O here is from 1988, whereas the typical trinitron tv with component is late 90s onwards. Id probably take a modern trinitron over an old B&O like this.

B&O have been making tvs since the 1950s. The oled panel being used in modern tvs by other brands is also what often occurred back in the crt days. B&O would often use philips tubes, i don't think this fact may have been as well known/publicised as today it is today with the knowledge of panel manufacturers.

@@rgbrob yes, LG display is the only company in the world that makes W-OLED panels, Sony, Phillips, Panasonic, LG they all use the same panel made by LG. But they all make their own processor's, and operating systems for their TV's. I don't know if B&O does this, I doubt it since they probably don't have millions to throw at R&D like company like Sony or Phillips would have. I just assumed that the B&O TV's where dressed up LG TV's with a fancy sound bar.
