I remember attending that concert, but that's about all. I do remember that as soon as I saw that album cover I recognized the area it was taken in. Which as Pat discovered is off of Phetburi road. Goes to show you how much the landscape here has changed. Once you left Makkasan in those days you were heading out into the sticks. I used to peer over the walls of the train graveyard there to see steam engines parked here and there. I was also lucky enough to have seen the Pretenders as Thammasat as well. I remember that there was an incident where the police got a big rough with someone trying to get on stage and Chrissie remonstrated with them to take it easy. The expat/western foreign population was so much smaller than. There were only a relative handful of westerners there, and many of us knew or recognized each other.
@BangkokPat
19 күн бұрын
Wow you were there, and explored Makkasan too! I saw The Pretenders here in Bkk in 2004 at BEC Tero Hall at Suan Lum Rama 4, it was a double night with Bryan Ferry so 2 gigs for one ticket, fabulous night it was. Chrissie talked a lot to the crowd but Bryan was the opposite, hardly said a word.

She chosen to look after the clash wile on there thia tour. She also told me they mentioned her in one of the tracks on combat rock. Which says MAMA MAMA SAN. I believed her.

Hidden Bangkok Tours do boat trips along the canals on the other side of the river (Thonburi) they are the best and are nice folks. There are two pubic boat services along the canals on this side of the river. Khlong San Saep canal, Old Town to Minburi & Khlong Padung Krung Kasem from Hua Lamphong to Thewet (by the river) I do tours as well but it's just as easy to find the canal boats yourself.

Iv'e watched about 6 or 7 of your videos and they are so well done. I'm wondering if you have filmed a video describing how you developed the skills to make these amazing mini documentaries. Everything about them feels so professional. The framing of shots, the pacing, the story telling. It feels as though you are a professional film maker but what little iv'e gleaned from watching ,you arent. Keep up the excellent work. As someone who only discovered Asia in the mid 2000's I find your videos a little depressing (because I feel like I missed out on so much) but you always have an optimism that makes it all OK.
