My brother had a copy of this on VHS from his banjo teacher. We grew up singing these songs. I became a big John Hartford fan because of this film.

Raymond Fairchild is the greatest banjo picker I've ever seen. Don Reno is right there with Scruggs.

I was lucky enough to have stayed with raymond and his family when I was a kid he taught me how to pull tone. and a lot of other things. the greatest is right miss you cheif.

That's one stolen credit that's been debunked. Banjo being originated in Africa/Jamaica. If true, it's truly an amazing correction.

it's the 5th string addition that originated in the US

@@johnny85er Actually, research seems to be that the (bass) 4th string that was added by Joel Walker Sweeney. The description is that "a fifth string" not "the fifth string" was added, to the 3 long strings and the thumb string, if that makes sense.
