@Dharmabum9287 I'm with you. You know what made me really self-loathing was being in that environment, trying to be in that crowd, trying to please other gay men. The mainstream, drug using, super fit, money obsessed gay lifestyle. If you're into that and you absolutely love your life, good for you. But I just couldn't stand the cattiness and the judgment for not fitting the mould. So I got out and thats when I started to really love myself. My comment doesnt have much to do with poppers but at most I dont think they help. A lot of young gay men need more self reflection, not drug dependence.

I'm a straight dude and tried poppers with my girlfriend while I was living in Amsterdam last year. Honestly, its a "just ok" high; you get this nice warmth all around your body. Your sense of touch is a lot more sensitive. Makes sex feel great. Unfortunately only lasts 30 seconds, so can lead to compulsive dosing. But yeah I can see how it's really hard on your heart: The last time I took it I thought I was gonna get a heart attack, my heart rate was pumping wayyy too fast for comfort. Inhalants carry risk, but so do many other activities like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes. I believe anything in moderation is fine. When you abuse a substance too frequently, the risks to your physical and mental health increase exponentially. Ensuring that people have a regulated product that doesn't contain adulterants is more important to me.

Wow and I actually spent money on something I thought was actual cleaner for VHS equipment. I knew the website looked seedy and thought it was weird it came by usps. A friend was over to pick up a refurbished double VHS recorder/player and noticed a bottle of double scorpio on my desk. He asked me if I liked to play, left me in total confusion, he couldnt stop laughing when I told him what I use it for and saw that I was serious. Nearly fell to the floor when he noticed the gas mask I use when cleaning with chems. Thought I was a total badass sticking my q tips into that gold bottle while under a vent hood with a gas mask. I have always heard that popper use is mainly only risky for men who have had a heart attack or other cardiac conditions. I have also heard that combining Viagra and poppers can be risky. I used to go to a sex club and every once in awhile someone would say, "OMG, some older man died here a few nights ago. He was snorting poppers." I do not know if that was just "urban legend" type hearsay or it actually happened. Considering the variety of chemicals and compounds some people take (including prescription medications, hello?) how would they know it was just the poppers? Anyway, I am not convinced poppers are any worse for us than fast food or soda pop; I have even heard frequent cell phone use causes cancer! EVERYTHING is risky; life is risky. And life without any pleasure is the riskiest of all !

@Married Texan well addiction and dependency are two different things, which you seem to be confusing them with each other. No I never became dependent on inhalants I was just an addict who was never fussy about what substances I’d be consuming on a daily basis. I’ve been clean for well over two years now, not 100% in all honesty I still smoke weed occasionally but everything else is left alone, I’m in a much more stable place than I ever have been. Cheers for the concern.

Many doctors say that poppers also lower your immune system if used often. This makes it easier to get diseases due to a compromised immune system. This is what doctors have said not my opinion. So don’t take any anger out on me.

@@mjt2231 sounds like you've been watching too many late night comedians for your info buddy, poppers are mostly banned due to the taboo of mostly being used by gay men, and up until recently (and even partly still in places) homosexuallity was illegal, and thus the only reason to have access would be for homosexual encounters. its likely a hold over from a more prudish time.

Don’t like the smell, I also don’t really believe it relaxes muscles anyway esp if it doesn’t stay in the system long anyway. I don’t think it creates a passionate experience either if one or the both of you have to keep sniffing from an annoying little bottle.

Listen I’m sex positive, and I think using poppers for sexual activity is great. But there’s a difference between using it for regular practice than acting like a popper addict. I don’t think it should be banned, but at the same time watching this made me not want to use poppers. I dig hypersexuality, but I also love having some form of connection with my partner. If you only have a connection with someone because of a drug, then maybe you should take a break from sex. Sex should be a connection between two or more people, it shouldn’t just be whether or not you got a double scorpio in your pocket. And if your this connected to poppers, then I would suggest you re-evaluate your sex life. Try lube or something lol, but there’s a difference being Sex Positive and Popper Crazy

I honestly don't think this ban is politically motivated. Despite the limited medical research, anyone who has spilt poppers on their skin, or watched it melt plastic, would know that it can not be good to inhale into your system. Also, it may not be physically addictive however I have encountered many guys who believe they can't have sex without it. I am not an advocate of the ban but let's be real, poppers does not define who we are as queers.

Study popper use within gay society & then look at gay AIDS. First came in 74 (big time SF/LA/NYC) by 77 over 100,000 bottles were being consumed each week in SF alone. By 1980, stange & rare diseases were starting to be reported within these 3 cities!

There is now a very ugly devolution with chemical drugs as they play cat and mouse with the law and even though there is safe artificial marijuana*, safe non addictive artificial marijuana exists and is available as a prescription (not sure about Australia but it exists) as Marinol or Cesamet. K2 &other street brands however have really become a deadly public health hazard and now with Fentanyl being slipped into almost all street drugs it is very sketchy as well as the spice itself avoiding regulation by changing formula has become dangerous. *yes, real marijuana is better, that is not the point I am making here
