I am a life-long guitar player and student of guitar and music, and I certainly mean nothing against anybody, but for my money, I'd much rather listen to Nels play than Clapton. Far more versatile player, in my humble opinion.

Testify! Agreed; every word. Nels is phenomenal, versatile, yet humble. Saw him in Banyan this era and they absolutely shredded everything they played, jazz, punk, hard raging jam, Henfrix' Machine Gun with Nels/Perk on fire together. LOVE Nels. Clapton's always been an overrated smug wanker, too.

You can never fault Nels and his mind blowing use of FX but I kinda wished he'd played the opening theme... heck even J. Mascis gave it a passing glance.

GOOD dudes, friends of mine now, and one of the tightest raging jazz-punk-hard rock groups Ive literally ever seen. They were more Stooges than the Stooges in really good ways. Musicians' musicians, all of them.

@youngfrusciante sounds like some digitech whammy usage, the fuzz factory, especially when he changed oscillation pitch by turning the volume off, thats definitely a fuzz factory, a delay is probably being used to create spurts of oscillation, it also sounds like he's using some sort of modulation, maybe a phaser or vibrato to create the really fast wobble sounds, and i can bet, as always, he's using his 16 second looper

Every version of this song by Nels and Watt is pure magic. The video could use more Norton Wisdom, but otherwise no complaints.

NORTON rounds them out and makes them even more special. Watt, Nels, Perk, WILLIE, Dr Herman fng GREEN, Norton ... some of the best playing I have ever seen. I need to upload my audio of them if I get the go ahead.

look at his pedal board ... no moogerfooger. my guess is a combination of the digitech whammy, boss delay and z-vex fuzz.
@adamrobertt
14 жыл бұрын
I doubt he's using a Fulltone Tape Echo. There's a few videos of him giving pretty detailed tours of his pedalboard and he has no such pedal. From what I've heard about his preferences too I'd be a bit surprised if he'd use something so finnicky, expensive, difficult to maintain, etc.

@Taligreen80 imo this is one of the better ones. not because it's accurate but because he plays like hes very experienced in guitar playing. any experienced guitar player will know what good playing is...you didn't like this because it just sucked but i think it was because his ,"style" it's just different from yours..maybe your just not accustomed to his style of playing...

At a certain point music is not subjective. Listening to Blink182 or other shit like that is like eating at McDonald's. It's not really food and it's not really music; it's disposable garbage - for disposable people with no taste who are content to eat shit. I like how you start with "you fucking idiot" and end with "let there be peace."

What about Eddie Hazel? He was the lead guitarist on the original and is an awesome musician. Also, Eric Clapton has had a longer career, and to me better solos, than many of the people you mention. The most ignored guitarist to me though is Jeff Beck.
