So after struggling with a Mignon grinder for over two years now, I bought the Sette 270 and with the help of this video not only got a perfect pull in 3 tries, but validated my purchase 100x over. Thank you SO much for this: I was honestly about to give up on prosumer espresso and lattes at home because our old grinder was too cryptic and impossible to work with. ❤

Thanks for that very nicely done video. One aspect of dialling in the grind setting that baffles me is the adjustment of the same variable in two different places. For example, if the pour starts at 12 seconds it means the grind is to fine so needs to be made coarser, then if it finishes at the 20 second mark it then needs to be dialled finer which would then change the start time.

When I first got my 270wi I called Baratza to help with the setup. I mentioned your "single dosing idea" and the Baratza tech said he didn't recommend single dosing for this grinder

That’s because the 270Wi has technology that adjusts grind time to hit the target weight after a few attempts. Not having consistent bean input messes with what the computing chip assumes it is grinding through.

That's because this is the 270 not the 270wi.

Nice! It's at a really good price point. Is this the cheapest electric grinder that is viable for espresso?

That's the Acaia Pearl! clivecoffee.com/products/acaia-pearl-scale It's one of our favorites, alongside Acaia's other espresso-specific scale, the Lunar: clivecoffee.com/products/acaia-lunar-scale

That's a $200 scale. I paid $40 for a TIMEMORE scale on Amazon. Checked it with a 100g calibration weight, and it read 100.0. Good enough for me. Has a manual or auto start timer too.

Pecka, thanx, tough is combination with manual Rok machine - how to set correct coarse/fine settings, if pressure is done by me :D But eye opener is that setting for espresso is usually between 5 and 9, I've been using just 8,9, didn't go below. Tried 7 and it is better :D Suppose I will overdose myself today :D

I’m about to order a Sette 270. For those of you who own one, a question: what is your current coarse/fine setting for your espresso grind? I’ll be using a typical blend, and I’m imagining that such a roast blend should typically utilize a similar setting for most folks. I want to start from a good place, so I don’t need to waste too much coffee dialing it in. So let’s see your Sette settings!

Probably too late to help here but for future owners a bag of Intelligentsia dialed in around 5G. The advice in the video is solid for the normal range being 5-9.

Always, depending on freshness you will still need to dial in.

Anything below 11 does not produce a drop with my Sette 270i.

That's not an uncommon result. Over the years Baratza has made numerous subtle updates to the Sette line which have slightly shifted the calibration. Considering this is also very dependent on your coffee of choice and the rest of your setup, finding the right setting can take a bit of trial and error.
