Excellent job finding all this information about this amazingly talented and strong woman. For those that didn't know, she was laid to rest with no headstone or even a marker. The owner of the youtube channel, Faces of the Forgotten worked hard and found her final resting place and he and his supporters made sure that she finally got a headstone out of respect to her. May she rest in peace and be remembered forever for all she accomplished in her life. She was an amazing singer and songwriter!

Mike you do a fantastic job with all of your videos. My mother’s brother Hysear Don Walker was a studio musician at Brunswick Records where Acklin was in the 1960s. He was also the pianist with the Young-Holt Trio/Unlimited. By some chance do you have any Ahoskie (Hertford County), NC roots? My grandmother was a Boone and I many Boone relatives. Keep up the excellent & outstanding work with these wonderful videos. J. C. Hunter

Thanks for providing your music bios of the great artists. While its entertaining to listen to, what you have been doing over the years is of so much importance as you're providing real music history that will live on as long as the music. There isnt enough thanks to say for this act as the r & b of the 50s, 60s, & 70s represent the golden age of so many talented musical giants( both the known & unknown) and is a era that will never be duplicated. The Acklin/Record songwriting team is one of my favs-and among those endless classic Chi-lites songs this duo composed like "Oh Girl", "Stoned Out Of My Mind", etc.....their song "Toby" really takes me back to 1974 and as a little kid being able to understand exactly what that song is about-because the lyrical/melodic picture painted by these two special songwriters is so on point.

"Can you sing, Barbara?", asks Jackie Wilson. "A lit tle bit, " she replies.😂😂She is my all-time favorite soprano. Not fair that she competed with Aretha in '68. She was definitely a first lady of soul. A hugely talented singer-songwriter, I've read that she was a dynamic performer on stage also. It's a shame there are no videos of her performances to post.

Thank you!!! Excellent Work!! This was very well written and superbly produced video that captured a critical piece of artistry and history in our community. I remember the songs, now I have learned the history that accompanies them. These recorded songs are time capsules of melodically created messages to encourage self-love and extended love to the lives who depended on the messages coping with day-to-day living.

That Soulful Strut story was fascinating! So Young & Holt weren't on that record! I wish I was grown and a musician, Mr. Davis could have put my name on it! Also Paul Jackson Jr. did a version of Soulful Strut around 1996. AFTER YOU, I always referred to it as that Woody Woodpecker song! LOL! Out of all of the Chicago Sounds Brunswick had the BEST and I love Barbara Acklin's singing and her songwriting contributions!

But he has to have her family to give permission to place a permanent marker or headstone that we, his followers, and her fans, would like to place for her. May she rest in peace and respect.
