If I go to failure on every set, which I do, Im alone. A friend is often going to be listening to music or on their phone. It’s not feasible for most people. And most bench presses don’t have a safety, so trying to make do and use a squat rack with a safety at a busy typical gym isn’t feasible either. The dumbbell bench press gives more abduction and stimulation to the workout. It’s just the most practical option for consistent chest training.

A few tips that might help you with your barbell bench: 1)If you are flat Back benching, you should lower your weight so you can properly control it, and you should make sure you start and finish the movement over your chest instead of your face. 2) If you retract your shoulders, you might find it takes the impact off of your shoulders. As someone who used to have shoulder problems with benching, both of these helped me get rid of it entirely. Or you can just do dumbell benching as Jay suggested 😂. Good luck brother 💪

EXACTLY. Nobody wants to let go of the bar because lets not kid ourselves, it looks pretty sick. However, you can bring the elbows deeper which places more load on the chest and the elbows can be brought in instead of being at a flat angle with the bar. Then it trains stabilizers too. After only training with dumbbells since I started a year ago I surprised myself at how strong I was using a straight bar… … I also hurt my shoulder too 😂
