Some of my favorite barbershop scents are Sartorial, Histoires 1828, and an oldie and a cheapie is Pinaud Clubman ($7 USD). Also, not sure if it would be counted as a barbershop scent but in the same area is Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum, what an amazing scent.

I love HdP's 1828, as well as their 1725, which I feel is a bit more barbershop-y than the former.

Lavande by l'occitane is the most barbershop barbershop I've encountered. Literally lasts about 20mins too. I also get the steam from sartorial.

Rive Gauche for the win! Older bottles of Rive Gauche after shave are still floating about. And, even though they come in a splash bottle, are equally as fantastic. And I am with you on Bois Du Portuagal. I sniffed a new bottle the other day at a retail outlet and it was pitch perfect. I ought just get a bottle and be happy.

My hairdresser always wears Acqua de Parma Colonia Essenza. PS: MrSmelly loves Bois de Portugal and is launching his own fragrance : Gravitas. It would be interesting to hear your opinion when it comes out!

I’d agree sartorial is by far one of THE if not THE favorite fragrance in my entire collection. It’s fantastic I want to try more from the house like Opus 1870, LP 90, Endymion, English Fern

I used to think that fougeres weren't for me at all. Then I came across Sartorial and now own a bottle. How Duchaufour created this feeling of steam coming off of it is just incredibly well done.

I'm wondering if that last one you described as your barber using but "didn't ask what it was" would be Pinaud Clubman. It's and aftershave and cheapie BUT IT IS a barbershop in a bottle with great sillage and performance. Men be men; find a good barber and stay away from your wives hair dresser!😜

To me, barbershop fragrances are what reminds me of....well...barbershops. Bear in mind that I'm 70 yrs old, so my ideas on these fragrances may be somewhat antiquated and not to the liking of noses much younger than me. Not familiar with the scents of your chosen fragrances today save Rive Gauche and Yatagan (Yatagan to me smells like some strange celery-laden vegetable soup that was prevalent in the air of apartment buildings in NYC in the 1950's!). To me barbershop fragrances are as follows: Old Spice (which you mentioned), Pinaud (and all its derivatives), Azzaro pour Homme, Tuscany by Aramis, Vetiver Guerlain and of course Bay Rum (especially St. Johns Bay Rum, which although an after-shave, has more lasting power than many of todays 'high-end' EDT or EDP's!). You did get my attention with Etruscan Water....a bit or research on my part is in order! Thanks for the wonderful video!

Great list Pep. I too love barbershop fragrances and agree that Sartorial is atop that genre for me-although Rive Gauche/Azzaro Pour Homme are not that far behind. As for slight deviations from the traditional definition, I like: * Bogue MEM-an innovative take on the likes of Caron Pour Un Homme and Jicky. * Héritage-a cooler weather approach to the fresh gentleman feel. * New York Intense-apparently similar to Bois de Portugal and Mouchoir de Monsieur.

Hello Pep - you nailed it. It's all personal and comes from one's associations. Here in my part of the States Clubman Pinaud was used at traditional barbershops (a few used Brut). Rive Gauche is my top barbershop fragrance. I like the opening of Sartorial, but unfortunately something in the drydown makes me nauseous - literally! Bummer, because before that it is awesome. I suggest you check out a aftershave/cologne called Cad. It's a take on Rive Gauche, but different enough to make it unique. It has really good longevity and decent projection for an aftershave/cologne. In Australia it can be found here: www.thestraywhisker.com.au/phoenix-shaving-after-shave-cologne-cad As always, thanks for another great video!
