I must say, the delivery and tone from you Fr.'s reading it is much more enjoyable to hear than from the original actress. It was hard to relate to her in the moment as a woman because it came across a bitter and negative rant. The tone and slower speech could make me reflect on each word and see what was truth.

I saw the movie with a similar depth and wondered how so many missed the point. Maybe it has to be seen through a Catholic lens? I loved the part with the old lady on the bench and I also loved the message of her self actualization and desire to be like her creator... maybe similar to the Catholic perspective of unity with God. Greta Gerwig does proclaim to be influenced by Catholicism in her movies. I'm disappointed that many will only see her as a feminist filmmaker now considering Lady Bird and Little Women were phenomenal films. Barbie was average but better than conservatives talking heads are saying.

Years ago, the Eglise de Notre Dame on the Columbia University campus in NYC was run by Dominicans from Poland. That was my Church at the time. One day, I forget which Feast - our plump Pastor appeared resplendent in Pink. 'Gotta love a Guy in a Pink Cape!' I teased. 'Its not Pink!' he replied. 'It's ROSE.'

Great episode. Would recommend having Abigail Favale on for a Guestsplaining follow up. I’d co-sign the reading about the ending, except the mystical creature/creator encounter made the whole film nihilistic to me. I don’t remember what was said verbatim, but the general point that I got from that scene was, “Do whatever makes you feel good- there’s no real Truth out there that you’re actually beholden to anyway” and that made all the dopamine-laden aesthetics of the film feel self-conscious and hollow to me… The lady on the bench who seemed annoyed to even be in the film (and who had seemingly already internalized - upon arrival - Barbie’s best wisdom)? Best part of the movie!

Really interesting take on the movie. When I watched it, I thought that it didn't really say much regarding gender roles except "patriarchy bad and matriarchy bad", but I'm glad to hear other level-headed Catholic perspectives

Honestly this take has shocked me although i accept your differing perspective i think the overall film is just extremely flawed and many of the plot points either dont make sense or ultimately result in contradictory conclusions if thought about. Imo the movie is very bad

That guitar intro has a very V2 Protestant feeling. You should replace it with a nice solid Gregorian chant. Tolkien would like it and God intended it. ✝️

As Dominicans, you guys have really missed the theological underpinnings and the moral ethical underpinnings on this one
