We have mostly been growing seeds since winter but most were beaten down by rains or dug up by varmints lately so I bought hardy hydrangeas blooming blue already to plant with vinegar tomorrow to make soil more acidic
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
5 ай бұрын
Yes varmints are such a pain. Just FYI adding vinegar only affects the PH for a few days and it kills good soil microbes. So it really isn't a good idea to use. I hope you don't mind me telling you that. From Purdue University: Even though vinegar is an acid, it breaks down quickly in the soil and, therefore, is not likely to accumulate enough to affect soil pH for more than a few days. Vinegar causes a rapid burn to plant tissue of susceptible species, so unintended injury is quite likely without knowing more information.

Thanks so much for taking us along! I'm 60 miles from NYC in zone 6a. I went to my Lowe's on the 29th and they had hardly nothing only some Easter Flowers. This morning April 4th i woke up to an inch of snow with some nearby towns getting more. I usually get alot of my seeds at our dollar tree. Dont know if you have one where your at. The peat pots i have never tried but i do seed starting some of my seeds in the jiffy peat pellets. But before i plant them i always tear off the netting. And yess i do sometimes break a few roots but the plants do just fine. A friend gifted me an Orchid but i knew nothing about growing them but did some researching on Google and so far so good. You walked past them Geraiums like 3 times! Didnt you hear me yell to you! Stop Pam! Check them out and tell me the price! Lol I recently bought 2 fuchsia colored ones at an indor flower show for 4.99 a piece. I planted them outside in pots but they took a hit from the cold even when i had them covered up. I cut off some of the outer leaves and they are bouncing back. This coming week in the 50s and 60s finally can't wait!!

Curious to know your opinion on Wave petunias vs. Supertunias....?
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
5 ай бұрын
Wave petunias have always performed better for me than Supertunias. I think it may be because even in summer we can get relatively cold nights. Wave petunias are more cold hardy and will do well in cooler temps. Supertunias usually won't spread and bloom for me until nearly September. Plus I can grow the Wave petunias from seed and I can find the six packs much, much less expensive than the Supertunias. The Wave petunias spread and flower prolifically. Some will claim certain attributes about Supertunias that are supposedly superior to Wave petunias but they are usually selling them and I have not experienced what they claim. I have been growing Wave petunias since 1997 and have never been disappointed. I have tried Supertunias several times and they have never performed well but those in warmer climates love them. Another plus with Wave petunias is they will reseed themselves for freebies in your garden.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse this is good to know! Thank you! The only ones that worked crazy well for me were the Bubble Gum supertunias. Last year I spent a small fortune and pre-ordered the white supertunias and they performed so poorly. It almost made me not want to do petunias at all again! I will see if I find any of the waves. I am in New England (Massachusetts).
