In the Antwerp port area, the arrival and departure traffic on the Scheldt was resumed after an inland vessel had lost a lot of containers earlier in the afternoon at the level of the North Sea terminal. This is what the Antwerp Port Authority reports. The nautical commission will investigate the accident even further, but the cause currently seems to have been a stability problem for the ship. There would not have been hazardous substances in the containers.
In total, according to the Antwerp fire brigade there were not 30, as first reported, but 18 containers overboard. The emergency services were able to quickly locate them and, if necessary, they pulled tugs out of the navigation channel, so that the shipping traffic could be resumed as quickly as possible. In the end, there was no arrival and departure traffic on the Scheldt for over two hours, but according to the Port Authority, the nuisance was actually limited because it was a very quiet day in the port. The fire brigade is still aware that all containers have now been brought to the side where port services can lift them ashore.
