The secret to fitting the throttle cables is as follows Ash..... fit the cable to the carbs before you fit them back to the cylinder head, its even easier for you at the minute as the airbox has been removed. The A1 and A2 models have just the one cable, whereas the A3 onwards have 2, one for opening, the other for closing.
@AshRowland

I did notice that there's actually 2 locations for cables, 1 for push and 1 for pull... I know they are the later carbs as they were subjected to the anti-icing recall

The Audi will make a useful backstop for a runaway bike.😅 you probably need to do a carb re-balance once you adjust the valve clearances. 👍🏻

Hi Ash, great video. Lovely to see your good lady enjoying the sun. Nice outfit too. You pointing in the manual is a watershed moment. Unfortunately, you do get numpties on KZitem so double check advice. Mine included! I couldn't help wonder, when you asked "what is this thing? " (Camchain tensioner), why you didn't RTFM. So super happy to see you are actually doing that. For carb balancing, you should set the tick over to a high idle - c. 2000rpm. This is to make sure all carbs are pulling fuel via the needle jets, not just running on the idle circuits. When they are synced, reduce the idle to c 1100rpm so they are back to idle on the Isle circuits. But you are right, without the airbox on, the mixture will be wrong in any case. To set the mixture, use Gunsons colour tune or an exhaust gas analyser. With the former, you can do each cylinder individually. With an old bike like the GPz (no take offs in the headers) an EGR will just average across all four cylinders. How pernickety are you? All the best to you both. ❤

Thanks Leon... I should have looked at the manual, you're right, but I had no idea what it was so couldn't look it up in the index lol... I'll set the carbs and everything up properly when its all back together, thanks for the tips 😃

Motobatt. As for the throttle cables, I disconnect from the throttle end and fit the carb end first then retrace to the throttle.....had a ZX10b and now have a GTR1000 with twin cables, both a total pita!! Best of luck with the build.

WOW! You're absolutely right! Well, I have no idea how on earth that broke off... unless it was glued on by someone previously trying to cover up a problem? Thats so weird! I've got a small collection of random bolts that I've found whilst working on the bike, I'll see if I have it... the thread inside the hole is definitely stripped so I reckon someone was trying to pull a fast one

Two things. Firstly that tensioner didn't seem to be doing much when you held it in place by hand as you put the screws in. I know when I did mine the spring tension was quite considerable. Are you sure the spring is sprung ! Secondly, did I hear you say 'aluminiun' lol
