Lunteren Fire Department:
One evening in Savorin Lohmanstraat there was a report of a barn fire.
The fire brigade responded quickly and worked in a coordinated manner to get the situation under control. Upon arrival it turned out to be a small fire, probably caused by a battery. The rapid deployment of firefighters prevented worse: the source of the fire was identified and fought with breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras. Two jets of high pressure were used to extinguish the flames, and the situation was under control within a short time.
During the intervention, attention was also paid to the safety of the residents. An elderly man, who had inhaled smoke and had difficulty breathing, was taken care of by the emergency services and neighbors and an ambulance was called for further checks.
This incident emphasizes the importance of smoke detectors and good fire safety in and around the house, because the smoke detectors did their job excellently and warned of the danger in a timely manner.
After extinguishing the fire, the fire brigade focused on ventilation and checking the damage. The interior space was ventilated to remove residual smoke, and any hidden sources of fire were checked using the thermal imaging camera. Although the barn sustained significant damage, the home was largely spared. This incident not only shows the dangers of fire, but also the effectiveness of a well-trained fire team that can act quickly to prevent worse.
