Hi Laura, I am so happy that you trimmed the boxwood into spheres because it’s like the continuation of the waterfall with the stones. If they had been made into a hedge I think it would’ve made the whole area look too harsh and not as natural as it is now. I think this garden area is my favourite! ❤️🇨🇦

I believe you mentioned this is the first time you grew elephant ears so in your typical Laura Purchase you bought 18 plants. Keep up the great work as I wish I had yours and Aaron’s energy. Compost pile video any time soon?

Wow the barn is going to look beautiful. Are you going to paint the doors black like on the coop? The little baby boxwoods are so cute in the urns with the pop of yellow & the ivy. Benjamin will love it that he can get closer to the water more easily. Thats really thinking ahead mom!!! LOL LOL We mom's are good at those kinds of things & it only gets better with time. So many awesome things are happening for y'all & it's so much fun to watch & follow along. I get so many ideas & little project things I want to do. Thank you so much for giving me back the pure joy of gardening. I think I had run out of steam & I was afraid of just saying that was not a good idea if I planted something & it didn't look the way I thought it would. I think I felt to guilty to take a plant out after I planted it. But now if I put something in & I don't like it, I just move it somewhere else or give it away. I now am more sure of myself & I enjoy trying out more plants. So thank you so much for that. I'm having a ball in my garden & I love doing it & just having a good time doing it. I find that I loose track of time when I'm gardening & I don't mind. TFS! HAVE A GREAT DAY. 😀😃😄😁❤💜💙🤗🤗🤭

Just an observation, your door should swing to the other side, so when you open the door and come inside, you enter into the room and not into the right wall, nor sure if I'm making sense? So the doorknob should be on the left side of the door and not the right side of the door.

oh, my.. i never really noticed that garage door off-center but yes! good call to center it! and that root cellar will be fabulous! you read my mind about hanging your peppers there as you walk in... love the white paint, look at your "estate", which is what i call it now... it's looking fabulous, y'all have done so much in what, 3 years??? i've been in my house 17 and well, i should get off youtube and get busy, i guess, haha... love the walkway and that new water feature is amazing... too bad there's not some sort of indicator for low water, kind of like what the self-watering pots have?? maybe you could put a stick in them like you'd talked about before so you could detect water level... i'm trying to turn a rosemary into a sphere... it's getting there but making something round isn't as easy as you make it look, hahaha... and you summed up what i discovered bothered me so much about my garden in the back this year: more structure.... it's just too wild and while pretty, it's frustrating me trying to get it under control.. it's because i need to change some things and that's my 2020 fall/winter and 2021 spring plan... more areas for calm and less wild stuff... you inspire me, and you have taught me so much!! thank you! and thanks for the video!! :)

EASY WAY TO SEE RESERVOIR WATER LEVEL IN YOUR POND. My hubby drilled a small hole in the tank top large enough to insert a dowel rod. Just insert the rod into the tank and pull it back out to see the water level. (Just like checking the oil in a car). Cover the hole with a pretty rock and hide the dowel until you need it the next time. Easy peasy! 😉

I would have put the door to the root cellar on the opposite side of the wall it’s on. That way the area when you walk in is the wall where the air and heater are. Then the area you said you might just hang stuff can be shelving also and your “hang stuff” spot can be the area below the air conditioning and heater.
@ritasicari7518

Agree. That would be a better use of space.
@MarianneRuffhaven

I have to agree with you. If it were my barn, the door should be near the back wall of the barn, for better organization inside. The other benefit would be continuous shelving storage wrapping around the outside of the root cellar. But, this is their barn, and they might have tossed this idea around a bit and for reasons we don't know yet, decided to put it where they did. You know Laura and Aaron really think things through before jumping in. Their reasons will reveal themselves as time goes on.

Hi Laura! I LOVE that area so much, it is my favorite! I'm so glad you didn't turn the boxwoods into a hedge. They look so pretty in a sphere and IMO, I think the hedge would have looked out of place. The urns turned out so pretty, too! I love the yellow petunias added for color. Your plans to make it easier for Benjamin to walk by the water feature is so sweet! I know I've said it before, but I'm really hoping you leave the gazebo just the way it is. It matches the pergola so well! The barn looks really good painted white with black accents. I'm anxious to see how it looks with the added door and the middle door centered and the lights added. It does match the chicken coop really well. I'm glad you're getting closer to getting the root cellar finished. Can't wait to see how you place everything. The coolbot will be really great for when you cut your flowers next year!!! I can't remember whether or not you grow peonies, but if you do, you can cut them when they are just beginning to crack color in the bud and they will store in the cooler for 5 months (Don't put them in water!). Wrap them in newspaper. When you take them out, fresh cut them, place them in water and they'll open!

Yes, the barn! It always did bother me a little when watching you work there, something was a little off. The new plan is going to be wonderfully balanced. The root cellar will be so handy with your incredible harvests. I agree that on big projects expertise and experience is the way to go. People who do one thing for a long time run in to all the glitches and know how to prevent them instead of having to come back and fix it or worse living with it not quite right. The trimming! What a difference, it doesn't look bad, but when you make it all clean and even it looks showcase! Love, love! I'm not understanding the need to refill the reservoir, doesn't it just recirculate ( allowing for some evaporation like you would a swimming pool)? Can't there be a bobber or something that can indicate if water level is getting low? The Virginia creeper looks cool there, but I think it's considered invasive here. Containers are beautiful with little pop of yellow to entice your eye. I always said I'd never have pink or blue hydrangeas, but after watching your videos I took advantage of a Proven Winner sale and got 4 Invincibelle Spirit II for my yard and they came yesterday, very nice condition and can't wait to see them in the Spring. I also have found succulents interesting in look and growth habit, but just never wanted any, but that planted statue is starting to make me turn. Keep up the great work and information some of us need it a lot more than others and I am one of them! Have a wonderful gardening day.

I can fully understand why you find 'excuses' to go through the area where your water feature is! Its just gorgeous! Questiion: in order to monitor the level of the water in the deposit, regardless of season, would it be possible to make a DIY selwatering stake / float indicator that could discreetly come out at a corner of the deposit but can be monitored visually for all seasons? I don't know if I am explaining myself, but I mean these clear tubes in self watering pots with a red level indicator... i have made my own in the past for my pots, on a much smaller scale, of course, but maybe something along those lines could give you peace of mind regarding consistent water levels? 🌸

Speaking of "this big opening here"....have you decided what you'll plant to grow up the arbor.? I've been telling a friend he needs to watch you guys, he was laid up for a short while and I sent him a video and said...SUBSCRIBE...when he was back to work he said..."that Garden Answer girl is something else", I said..."I KNOW RIGHT". Guessing he's 1 of the .03 newbies.

Boxwood comment/question: I was waiting for all my bushes (holly,burning bush,boxwood)to go dormant in winter and then hard prune. If I have no risk of freeze in next 10 d can I prune now? Learning so much from your videos!! Thank you! You are such a delight and an inspiration. Love your beautiful smile. And “the four of us!” That just tickled me pink!!!

Hey, Laura, Robert had an idea of using a dowel rod as a dip stick to check the water level through the gravel.
