I used Barnes 12 ga. Solid Copper Sabots during a recent hog hunt in N.Texas. I shot 4 hogs that weekend and you cannot compare this kind of performance with a lead core bullet. Devastating does not begin to describe the effects. I am forever a Barnes fan.

Barnes bullets might not create as much shock as more frangible designs but if you hunt where you do not have the option for waiting for the perfect broadside shot the added RELIABLE penetration of their all copper design is a worthwhile tradeoff. I load all kinds of bullets in 30+ firearms and the TTSX is one of my favorites, my 30-06 LOVES 150gr TTSX over a stout charge of RL19, Barnes bullets are fast, something to do with the rings they cut into the shank, my 06 gives me over 3050fps that is 270 Win trajectory and 30 caliber impact, not as dramatic as some exploding bullets but sure to get the job done on both thin deer and large hogs with the same load. They are pricy though, that is why I keep some rifles with cheap lead core loads so I can afford to practice in the off season, I often shoot several thousand rounds a year.

Yup the gmx is okay but it’s an alloy 5% zinc so it’s harder and does not expand as fast. The Nosler E-tip is the same.

In my small amount of personal experience... the .308 Win TTSX performed awesome. Shot was @35yds on a nice forked Mule Deer. However, this weekend, for the first time I went out specifically to hunt for coyote. Long story shorter... in a quick happening situation... I manage to hit a coyote with 62gr TSX in .223 Rem. Here is where it gets odd. Though it was a fast occurring event and I had to make the shot quickly... the shot totally rolled the coyote over... caused him to pull-in his forelegs into a "TRex" position up next to his chest... he laid on the ground momentarily on the pathway near the top of the draw I was in, then somehow managed to get back up and then run up and out of sight out of the draw I was down inside of. I figured he'd likely run 30-40yds perhaps and expire. But he didn't! I relentlessly followed his blood-trail some 300-350 yards away. He exited from near the top of the draw, crossed the up the knoll to the other side and then down a steep Ravine into a gully. Several good decent looking spots of blood on that downhill into the Ravine. From the forelegs doing that TRex move... I know (or believe) the shot occurred in the front half of the animal. And yet... even with the energy transfer I witnessed that seemed to knock him over and roll him... Makes me wonder if the projectile didn't open up as nicely in the coyote since they are smaller and thinner bodies than Deer/Hogs perhaps? Also starting to consider the possibility the shot placement was perhaps not on heart long area. Has anyone else had success with their Barnes TSX 62grain round on a coyote? I just want to compare notes with others. Wondering if perhaps the lighter 55gr TSX may be a better choice for the coyotes?

Shot two elk with Barnes in the past few years. The first was a bull at 275 yards broad side with my .300 Wby. The bull dropped but was able to get up and move about 20 yards before dying. Exit hole was nickel size. The second was a 668 yard shot (Yes, I'm that good and lucky) that smacked the bull right through the chest. The bull laid down and then was able to get up and walk off. Luckily it walked out in the open towards a friend who closed him out. When we examined the damage I hit him perfectly through the lungs, HOWEVER, it was a pin hole in and a pin hole out. Lesson: Do NOT use Barnes for long range hunting, they simply will not expand when travelling less than 1,800fps and you'll lose the animal. In my experience, energy and shock are more important than a wound channel, especially if the wound is not in the cardiovascular system.

these bullets did not work well with my 7 mm the cost is too much to get the practice in so i could get sighted in and to get the FPS , so i went to nosler bullets and they work unbelievable drop a buck in his tracks at 300 yards and a doe at 420 yards they both did not take a step dropped in their tracks. for half the price of barns. maybe if they are selling so many of barns that the price could go down so we could try them out again. for my 223 i use nosler varmint one hole in nothing out saves fur. 400 yards and 3 inch moa .

All the shots in the video were neck or high shoulder any bullet will drop a animal with that type of shot the imo seems way to hard and will not expand consistent or reliably

I'm tired of this company and their way of doing business. I have complained a few times and nothing accomplished. Buying boxes of 50 bullets is for the birds. I spend more money in shipping or fuel than in bullets alone. I buy 10 boxes every year for my 30-06 and 5 for my 22-250. Put out boxes of 500 or 1000, what on earth is 50 when stores only get 2 or 3 boxes per month? I recently found 1 box through mail order, it costed me over $50.00... $37.95 in bullets and $12.?? in shipping. Yes, I do practice with them too, out of both my guns and my brother too. I will be happy to see 250 bullet boxes with the same part number. 50 piece box? Seriously? I will jump out of a tree with a knife to klll an animal before I shoot a different brand/ type bullet.

Why do anti-hunters post comments on here? Just for attention? Unlikely they will change hunters' feelings, but maybe they will. I like Barnes, and they do shoot very differently from trad. lead cores, I've noticed less friction on the bore with my 9.3 mm solids with less recoil. They are expensive but it's good to have choice for a 500 year old technology. I recommend every one take a look at the Hand loading book I've published.

I shot two deer with my hand loads using these rounds this fall. 30-06 150gr tsx @ 2950fps. 1st buck was a 4 point mule at 260 yards, 1/4 away while moving. It dropped in its tracks and slid 8 feet as it was moving down a hill. 2nd buck was a whitetail at 80 yards, face on. I shot it in the neck, it destroyed the vertebrae completely then entered the chest cavity and went through the scapula despite the low angle approach to this bone. This animal also died before it hit the ground. A friend shot a doe this year at 80 yards with a copper/lead core bullet(30-06) and we recovered the jacket(hollow with no lead attached), along with countless chunks of lead in the meat.. Your dad needs to work on bullet placement. Oh to top it off I handloaded these bullets (I'm a beginner) put any factory load I have tried in my Tikka 30-06 to shame. 0.6MOA when sighted with about a 4-5mph wind.

There's no other explanation to it other than he missed, and it is possible to miss at the ranges you mentioned. I've been using Barnes bullets for years, especially in the .35 Whelen. Never lost a deer, or had to track one, for that matter, and yes, they do expand. No disrespect meant to your dad, but he missed. End of story.
