Старые пилоты бывают лысые или седые. Лысые это те, кто летает в любых условиях. Седые, это те, кто летал с лысыми. 😀

after takeoff first reduce throttle, then reduce prop rpm, then reduce mixture for the climb and continue to reduce mixture per aircraft flight operations manual until you are set up for a cruise climb normally. reducing prop rpm before reducing manifold pressure can cause an overboost situation, which can hurt the crank case and cylinders. on descent the opposite is true. descent richen the mixture, then increase prop rpm, then increase manifold pressure. in a turbocharged or supercharged recip this is especially critical.

Thanks for the comment Spencer. The Baron has aspirated engines, so no turbo charger in the air intake, and thus no risk of overboosting. The engine handling procedure is to climb with full throttle all the way, and for a relatively high altitude cruise ( for unpressurized airplanes ) at FL100, full throttles in cruise are recomended. In the absence of a turbo charger the engine needs air!! The power for climb and cruise is reduced not by the throttles, but rather by reducing rpm and leaning the mixture, so as to get acceptable Exhaust Gas Temps ( EGT) and Cilinder Head Temps ( CHTs), as well as economic fuel burn.
