+Nathan Callaghan It is the job of Prime Ministers to have to send Service people into conflicts and wars. They would prefer not to but they do. Maggie not only made it very clear what our objectives were she gave us 100% support when things were rough. She made some very difficult decisions look easy (like the Belgrano that saved thousands of UK lives) and was not afraid to stand up for Britain against the EEC, the USA and the forces within the UN. Remember Reagan was 'neutral' but his Secretary of State Haig and UN Ambassador Kirkpatick were fiercely pro Argentina (or was it anti British?). Once we started the shooting war (the Vulcan raids) Reagan was persuaded by Wienberger (after a conversation with Maggie) to support us. We didn't need any US military to help us but it was critical she made them NOT go over to the Argie side as many in the US wanted. To know that Maggie was 100% there with us and we knew we could rely on her when things got tight meant we had the confidence to crack on. You can't measure that. It was the same in Gulf War I. Maggie in a tank ... magic! Compare how Blair behaved. He sent far more people to their graves, with the wrong kit and no support and then turned his back on them. I would still have fought under Blair but would happily have slotted the fucker. As for her politics she won 3 General elections with increased majorities and even ensured Major won his first. She was never defeated in a General Election but only by the Europhile back stabbers in her Party and look where they got us. The UK gave her their support and approval in life. I was just glad I could see her honoured in death and saw many like me doing what I did for the same reasons. She deserved that funeral and the Union Flag on her coffin.
