At 1 am ,I was searching voice that would scare the mouse in my room. I played a lot of cat voices but those didnt work. And i found this vid and played. That mouse really came out from where it was hiding and got out from my room. And i dont dare to stop playing this coz i am afraid that mouse would come back.

Barred Owls have a territory and will only find 2 within that area. The two are a couple and are thought to pair for life, you likely heard the male and female hooting and/or caterwauling. Often sounds like a group and not only 2.

These owls are a rabbit's worst nightmare as well. We have one of these owls living in our back yard and we keep finding rabbit body parts in the yard in the morning. Our yard is fenced. It's the owl. Even saw him go after one of the rabbits once but missed. I believe the owl is strong enough to kill a rabbit but not strong enough to fly away with it. That's why we keep finding body parts. I think the owl is killing the rabbit on the ground and then tearing them up and flying away with the favorite parts.

It stayed long enough for me to put my Fuji 10 megapixel still camera on a tripod. The video function of the camera only has auto focus which can be distracting & awful in the audio track. Not to worry about peoples pets, as this was a very large rat that couldn't run fast enough. The tree is located off Muir Rd. on Mission Hill, North Courtenay. Thanks for the response.

Fyi that crow was not just hanging out. Barred owls and crows are mortal enemies. The barred owl will sometimes hijack a crows nest, eat the babies, then use the nest to lay/hatch their eggs/fledglings. A murder (group) of crows will repeatedly attack (called: mobbing) barred owls

I might have guessed that you were from the Courtenay area. I live over by MacDonald Rd, and have walked the hill for many years. It is only in the last six or so years, that I have heard as many as 4 families calling out to each other. I do a lousy impression of a barred owl, but it is good enough to get them going. I actually saw a family sitting on the power lines one night, and they didn't seem to care that I was within 30 ft of them, lighting them up with a flashlight. What an experience! Bob

good camera work. Who cooks for you? says Bard owl. Formidable bird of prey. Silent flight. There was a bounty on Bard owl here in Oregon on some FS ground. Bards were eating Spotted Owl that are on endangered list. Not sure if there is current bounty. Some birder said the Sparred Owl is already happening. They"ll probable be pockets of Spotting Owls, most likely where enough food is where the Bard does not feed on Spotted Owl. Have pair of Bards hanging out at my place on rat patrol.

We have at least one of these owls living in the tall oaks in our back yard (each resident has 2 to 4 oaks in their yard, and our hoa is a bird sanctuary). When we first moved here years ago, and I heard this bird at night, it totally freaked me out. I though someone was in our backyard, making noise. Since then, I've seen so many birds that I never saw when I lived in NY. The funny part is this video is the crow squaking away, not letting the owl sleep. I saw this happen as well. One day, we had a hawk, an owl, and a few crows all in our backyard (I know, it sounds like a bad joke lol). The crows were squaking because of the hawk (and because they just like to chat all day anyway). They made both the hawk and the owl move from branch to branch and tree to tree. I felt so bad for the owl! All it was trying to do was sleep!

Great Video. Good steady camera work. Good clear shot. Focus is working overtime to keep the owl in the foreground. That must be a rabbit because it is too big to be a rat or a squirrel. Hope it wasn't the neighbour's cat. Where exactly is this oak tree? We were woken up last night out here Dove Creek way by a pair of these barred owls simultaneously calling. Thanks for posting.

I once watched a pair of magpies harrass a pair of wood pigeons. It's like the magpies were after the eggs in the pigeons nest and the magpies seemed to get a kick out of the game. The pigeons were tough enough to hold the magpies off and it went on for a while until a large crow came in and chased the magpies away. The crow didn't seem to bother the pigeons at all. The crow seemed to uphold the law lol like some sort of patrol keeping order. That's how I see crows now like the law men of birds.
