That was a GREAT series on barreling the Garand. I'm contemplating building one (or three) and this really simplified the process and took away any reservations I may have had about barreling the receiver. Keep up the good work and keep these Garand videos coming. As a former armorer with CMP, you definitely have a niche in the KZitem market. A better camera and you'll draw enthusiasts in like flies! Subscribing now just in hopes you make some more on this rifle...

Great video. You are the first person to show how to do gunsmith work by hand. I like to do some gun work on my M1 and .45ACP. Its nice to see you working with your hands and not thousand dollar machines. You are on your way of becoming a great gunsmith. Hank

I’m impressed by the knowledge you show. I’ve watched some other videos about rebarreling a Garand and even with my limited knowledge I thought, “that sure doesn’t look right!” I’ll be tackling this job one of these days. Got one of the Korean Garands many years ago, which is pretty shot out, and bought a new barrel a couple years ago when I saw a special price. You have given me the confidence I can do the job right! Thanks.

Also, the differences needed between a 30-06 and .308 would be super cool. I noticed you mentioned something about an "Ammo Filler Block" if you barrel in .308? Very important stuff to know. Again, great job/information on these videos, I "favorited" every one. I will be sharing these in the Garand Facebook Groups I belong to.

Nice video, thanks for covering both the install and reaming for headspace. I'd suggest for clocking the barrel using a magnetic protractor on the flat behind the rear sight and on the flat of the gas cylinder. When you get the same reading on both ends, you are lined up. You may pick one up at Sears for less than $10.

I thought the video was great. It had a lot of good information that the regular guy “like me” could understand. I recently inherited a Garand that’s been in a gun safe for the last 35 years. I shot it for the first time last weekend. It’s a BEAST and I want to keep it running for a long time. I really like the fact that there are people like you that take the time to share their knowledge with others. There are not many people in my area that really know what they’re doing. Great job…

Only thing I couldn't see in the video was how many turns of the crank it took to cut such a small distance...from the sound off things it took many full cranks to cut very short distances???

Awesome video series, I saw another guy cover the same topic but didn't talk about the required tools as much. He also didn't point out important things to look for or be cautious of. I have been looking for a gunsmith to rebarrel my 1942 Springfield but there isn't any "real gunsmiths" in the area. I will be using this series to do the work myself, thanks. Also a quick question, have you ever had to face the shoulder of the barrel to get proper timing when tightening?

Click! Do you think that it is wise to be forcing the right bolt lug down when you have a headspace gauge in the chamber? I bet that will falsely allow a pass and in reality be one to three thousandths short, as a guess.

Great informative video! I found that after reaming the chamber to minimum with the go gauge and after a good cleaning 3006 surplus ammo wouldn't chamber completely. Tried Lake City, Greek surplus, and Privi. I had to cut the chamber a hair deeper to get the bolt to close on them. Rechecked it afterwards with the go and no go gauges and all was good. Maybe my Clymer go gauge was a bit off so i suggest you make sure your ammo allows the bolt to completely close before you put everything back together and fire it.
@albertsnow8835

Glad you mentioned that. As I understand the Chambers were a little generous (not minimum) to allow for dirty ammo or chamber. Reliability was more important than moa accuracy in a combat rifle.

I have a 2 -44 made Winchester Garand that has a Springfield barrel and bolt. Shoots great and very accurate. I am wanting to put all Winchester parts and have picked up a Winchester bolt. If i put the Winchester bolt in it, do I still use the Go/No Go gauges for the headspace and if it will close on the Go but not the No Go, does that mean I can't use the bolt or have to get a new barrel? I guess i am concerned about the excessive head space issue. First time subscribing to any sites. Great videos. Thanks for your time and effort. Mike

Tac, excellent demonstration of re-barreling and head-spacing an M1 Garand. Don't worry about your Alabama accent, I understood everything that you said on your 4-part video. Like another viewer commented, you have given me the confidence to re-barrel my own projects. I would love to go to Gunsmithing school, but there are no decent ones where I live. Tac, first off excellent vid exactly what ive been lookin for, thank you. now my question is what can i use instead of the action wrench on my m14? would an adjustable wrench do it? and if im just going to rotate my barrel less than a couple millimeters because its overindexed, should i ream it? as for the vids good editing. one tip is dont try and figure out what your doing at the time with your video, just film everything and deal with editing later. thanks man.

Great videos! Don't mind the accent at all, haha. I couldn't tell from the angles but right at the entrance of the chamber they are two notches that are cut into the bottom I believe for the tips of the double stacked cartridges. Are those notches part of the receiver or barrel, I can't tell.

Your video was very informative, I enjoyed it... I have a C&R, and i do firearm videos on my channel..But i am a mancave gunsmith with very basic tools. I'm thinking of getting a M1 Garand parts kit and a M1 Carbine kit as well..I was told the Garand barrel has a boulge in it but will come with a good barrel.. This seems to be out of my league. You do this for a living,so I would like to ask. Do you have a website so I can contact you to get a price on taking off and properly installing and head spacing a barrel,.Then I can determine if it's worth buying the kit and having you do the work or just saving my money and buying a CMP M1Garand.. Thanks.. I will subscribe to your channel
