A young woman working as an exotic dancer at a club in Havana, Cuba, is dating Tony, the bartender. A rich kid named Rico comes in and is personally escorted to a seat. He favors Lola, calls her over, and gets handsy. Tony comes over to break it up, and Rico begins a fight. Fists escalate to chairs, chairs escalate to guns. Rico shot and killed Tony. Traumatized, Lola mentally never left her 20s. She never left Copacobana. If you fall in love in Copacobana, you will never leave it, even if it is no longer there. Lets dance.

I like it that the lyrics left it to the imagination who got shot. Rico could have shot and killed Tony or Tony could have shot and killed Rico and was sentenced to life in prison or executed.
