My wife’s name is Mandy. I used to suffer from bad PTSD nightmares from the war. The first night she stayed the night I had a bad one. She woke up while I was in sleep paralyzes and held me when I was shaking and crying and couldn’t move. She kissed my forehead and hummed a song I only heard my grandma and mother song. I instantly woke up and calmed dow from a 10 to a 1. I couldn’t believe it! It’s was 8 years since I was injured severely in Afghanistan and nothing worked. Then she did this and then I never had them again. I also never slept a night with out her and kept her close by me to this day. That was 5 years ago and I’m way more in love now then I was then. I hear this and it hits me in the feels so hard I cry a little every time. We got married a year ago and my only regret is not finding her sooner. I love you Mandy Lopez!

Welcome to the world of real music. A world where music is more than just notes, keys, and time signatures. Where the words from the singer can be heard and understood. Where the musician doesn't have to wear a sleazy outfit to draw an audience. Where the musician doesn't have to "come out" to gain support. This is from a time when musicians had something the musicians of today don't have -- talent and spirit.

I became obsessed with this song when I was 10 years old in 2000. My dad had the cassette and I made him play it over and over again. I would sit in his office listening to it while coming up with stories about the plot in my head. I just find it interesting that I was just 10 and obviously not old enough to truly understand the depth and context of this message, but still, it moved me deeply then and it still does at 30. That's when you know there is something about certain songs/ poems/ literature, that transcend time, place, space, age, ect. Sometimes your soul just knows something you might not even know yourself.

This song could have been written about me and her. The lyrics could have been written just for us. She was mine. She was willing to give everything. She was loving, forgiving, kind and was everything I wanted (although, i didn't realize it until it was too late.) She forgave me many times when she shouldn't have. She was so much mine that I didn't pay attention and make her mine forever. She found love elsewhere. The pain was incredible.

Singer writers, no longer Write this song I was born in 2005, But i didn't vibe with modern music Then my Grandpa, Always take me with his rides. then He have cd's of Barry millow, frank Sinatra etc. We together listen to this song will sing-along whenever this song comes in the radio, Thats also the reason why i fell inlove with 90's, 80's music because of how Great they sound, and I hope new gen Will still listen to this old 90's master piece.

Great song. I think this was about his pet. He was close to her. It actually reminds me of my old best buddy who was also a dog I put to sleep. Such unconditional love from animals. Everyone hears this in their own way.

I have no memories to this song, I just find the message of unconditional love (outdated as it is) & the emotional delivery very powerful.
@gfine2000

I was reading through the comments and of course, saw yours. Let me be the first to tell you that there is no such thing as unconditional love because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes but we must be able to move past those mistakes with forgiveness and not hold grudges against those we say we truly love because tomorrow isn't promised to any of us and we don't want any regrets in the end if that person we're holding a grudge against leaves this world before we do. Over the years I've lost my mother, my dad, a brother and two sisters. I didn't hold a grudge against any of them but hurt so badly because I feel I didn't spend enough time with them. Life really is precious, more precious than we'll ever really know but we feel it when we lose someone we love. Time is like a band-aid, it only covers the wound but it really never heals it. That scare on our heart and soul is forever.

Arguably this is the song that made Barry Manilow a superstar and made him, IMO, the greatest entertainer of the 70s, and I say this knowing full well that the 70s had beaucoup great singers and bands.

At a time when computer software was simply unavailable to help the songwriter make their songs a reality, this kind of song would have taken ingenious talent to compose. Barry Manilow was truly a marvel of his time.
