I loved the way he would just hand the ball to the ref after he scored. He didn’t show off. He just glided like a slalom skier. The most humble football player ever. You can’t compare Jim Brown and Barry. No need to. They were simply the best. Period.

Truly one of the greatest “what if” stories in football. What if he didn’t retire so abruptly? What if Detroit actually cared about fielding a winning team? What if he continued on his torrid pace for another few years. Barry Sanders is still to this day the most talented running back I’ve ever seen, and to know that there was still so much potential that went to waste is so upsetting

What if he'd gotten injured the season he retired...what if Detroit HAD fielded a better team and STILL lost though? I try not to wonder about could have beens...be thankful we got to see him for as long as we did and that he wasn't in an even worse situation. He could've been another one of those guys who was taken down by injuries and then he'd REALLY be a "what if" story. These are just some examples of me playing Devil's advocate, not trying to argue with you 🤟.

I don't want to hear this Jim Brown nonsense. Jim Brown was on teams that contended for championships almost half the time he played, never had a losing season. Sanders was on teams that had losing seasons half his tenure. Their YPC, YPG and totals TD's were very close. Just think what Sanders would have done if he were on the Cowboys or Steelers during the 90's with the offensive lines they had, multiple years over 2k no doubt.

As great as Barry Sanders was, except for the Dallas game and in the 1993 wildcard game, Barry Sanders was shut down the rest of the game in the playoffs.. The sad thing is if the Lions made it further in the playoffs Barry probably plays another 2 to 3 years. He breaks Walter's record and Emmitt Smith has a tougher time catching up to the all time record. Barry, Calvin Johnson, the Hall of Famers retiring because the Lions couldn't get it done. Only Matt Stafford broke the Lions curse and won a Super Bowl before injury took him away this season. Just be happy that we got to see a top 5 back of all time. Barry was one of the kind and you will not see someone like him ever again.

3:23 - This is why you should not use the argument of "if Barry played with a more talented team in Dallas, he would of been even greater". Also, question I have to ask. Did Barry break out after the first two games in 1997 because they abandoned the two back offense, or the team finally adapted to the new scheme?
