I always commended Barry Sanders for walking away when he did. He NEVER cared about personal accolades or setting records. He was never comfortable being the center of attention He was sick and tired of losing! The Lions front office continued to make terrible draft picks and trades and his frustration level reached a breaking point. He didn't care ONE BIT about breaking Payton's record...he wanted to WIN...PERIOD. The Lions treated him HORRIBLY during the last 2 seasons of his career. Barry Sanders' father? Did EVERYTHING right raising his son. He was Barry's biggest fan on the sidelines rooting for him for his entire career. But he never publicly gave him the praise everybody else did. He always said (in public anyways) that Jim Brown was the best running back of all time and that Barry was 2nd. TOUGH LOVE. The kind of love only great dads know how to give. Sanders' father deserves even MORE credit for raising an outstanding, humble, well-spoken human being. A son that was a once in a generation superstar who possessed strong ethics, morals and character. A son that knew how to act both on and off the field. This is something that is sadly missing in most of today's professional sports figures.

Whenever I watch these I get so sad, not for me(a Detroit fan my whole life), but for Barry. The man deserved better. If he played on almost any other team, he would have won a super bowl and easily still have the NFL rushing record today. There is no doubt in my mind, you take 1997 Barry Sanders and plug him into any NFL team today, and they win the super bowl. There never has been and never will be another one like him, pure ability, you can't teach that. Absolutely amazing. Only the Detroit Lions could make a man like that want to walk away from the thing he loved, that hurts, as a fan, to know it was the organization that let him down. I honestly wish, if they weren't going to build a team around him, they would have just traded him. I still would have watched and loved him!

C G that sounds like an excuse to me. So when Barry gets all those yards and touchdowns it’s all him. But when he gets negative yards rushing and has a 1-5 playoff record with 1 touchdown in 6 career playoff games, it’s all his teammates fault? Tom Brady has had more help than Aaron Rodgers. Does that mean Rodgers is better than Brady? Certainly Rodgers is more spectacular and has better highlights than Brady. But who’s better?
@357twilson
5 жыл бұрын
C G well yes I am because when Barry and Emmitt played the running back was the most important position. Learn something young man before speaking! And again, based off of your logic, it’s only a team game when it’s critical to Barry. When he is getting 15,000 yards and doing spectacular things it’s not a team game it’s all Barry. But when he gets stuffed and has poor games it’s his teammates.

Barry Sanders will still always have always was and always will be the most electrifying man with the Detroit Lions as a running back he was a human highlight real 1988 won Heisman Trophy Oklahoma State University he was a 1st Round 3rd overall pick in the 1989 nfl draft he was a special player his speed was ridiculous his change of direction was insanely masterful give him the ball and he'll go to the house touchdown i know he didn't or had a opportunity winning a super bowl ring or have another 2000 yard type of season but the only thing that matters right now is he's the best still the best in the Detroit Lions franchise history period plain and simple thanks for the greatest memories and greatest moments Mr.Sanders

I wasn't a fan of Detroit ever, but I was always a fan of B. Sanders. He was an anomaly. He could read the field like he was Helen Keller reading Braille.

So much GOAT talk about Brady. The true GOAT is Barry. He mastered his craft so much he was a man among boys. That’s the true sign of a GOAT in my opinion.

Jerry Rice is great, BUT Barry Sanders is the GOAT and HOFer Rod Woodons ACL would agree.
@davidmoody1235

Sean!!! I disagree I would take Jerry Rice career which includes 3 Super Bowls with a MVP along with all the receiving records which include more catches, yards and touchdowns than anyone. Sorry buddy but you can't be considered a goat when you have no rings or average playoff numbers along with rushing for negative yards in a playoff game.
@Sean-jb5gi

@@davidmoody1235 It would take 5 full Min to name all the HOF and Pro Bowl Teammates of Jerry Rice and you need .00000364 of a sec to name the 2 Pro bowl teammates of Barry Sanders. Oh and while Rice was still having to play to amass his Crazy Numbers at the age of 40, Barry had been in the HOF for 4 years at the age of 36

@@Sean-jb5gi That speaks to Jerry rice amazing durability and longevity. Jerry Rice All time leading receiver in catches yards and touchdowns along with 3 Super Bowl rings and a Super Bowl MVP, while Barry Sanders has regular season highlights with below average playoff numbers and also having a dubious mark of rushing for negative yards in a playoff game for a player of his caliber. he also has no super rings and retired early so you can play the what if game with him all you want be Jerry maximized his ability and he truly loved the game and what he did. Jerry had high goals unlike someone.

Rice needed 2 DECADES to amass his numbers and Barry needed half that to amass his numbers sitting out so many 4th Quarters and had ZERO help, routinely dodging 2-3 defenders in the BACKFIELD. While Rice had NOT 1 but 2 HALL OF FAME QBs passing to him.

I was born in 1988 on July 28th in Detroit MI. Barry retired on my birthday and it was a sad day for me and the city of Detroit. He is one of the reasons i love football and sports in general. Barry the Goat.

These videos are amazing.. I’ve been binge watching them for 2 days and still just as engaged and intrigued at the quality and the topics covered.. I was a D1AA running back and Barry Sanders was my inspiration and idol and I wore 21 since I was 5 years old bc of Barrys college number and Deon Sanders and you have 2 amazing docs on my boy Deon. Also, last note, I laugh every single video when the Tyson “Perfect Timing” drop is edited in everytime, perfectly haha great job and even better my name, is Joseph Anthony, soo youre automatically raised a notch in my book Joseph Vincent!

People can throw stats around all they like... The fact is that he was and still is the archetype for the greatest RB of all time. A sublime athlete physically, but a true gentlemen of the game. And a very intelligent man who’s brain and physical reaction time is still unparalleled. God bless #20.

I really believe Berry enjoyed playing for bad teams. I think he didn't even care if they won or lost, the feeling of holding the football and being chased was his thrill. A true love for the game.
