Due to the heat wave, BART trains run slower on some sections of the system. This includes some sections of the southern Alameda Line. The automatic train control system regulates the train so that even though the track is designed for speeds of up to 80 mph, the train will only go up to 44 mph, with reduced speeds across all non-zero speed commands.
This is done at BART and other systems across the world due to possible rail kinking (buckling) and the need for even more vigilance on the rails during this weather.
