"The whistlestop crew made note that the BART system stations were among the cleanest in the country." How times change!

Dave Tibbs they still are ranked cleaner than NYC, Atlanta, Newark, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. So the standard for clean in US metros is low today.

I lived in Pleasanton from March, 1989 until January, 1995; and in Concord from January, 1995 until August, 1996. From Pleasanton I rode "BART Express" routes U, UP, UX, DX, and D to BART train stations in Hayward, Bay Fair (East San Leandro) and Walnut Creek. In Concord, I rode the route 110 County Connnection bus route to the Concord BART station. I rode the BART trains to San Francisco, Daly City, and Colma. I rode only a small number of times; however-each trip was fun, relaxing, memorable, comfortable, pleasurable, and memorable! This two-part video was informative, instructional, and well-produced!

When I was an operator, we would go through the transbay tube at 80 mph (or Performance Level 1) Nowdays trains only go through at PL2 at 65 mph. It is rare that PL1's are issued anymore by the system, as the equipment wear on the wearing fleet is too much.

The only reason there is a "train operator" is because of the "human factor"....since BART is fully automated it doesn't need a train operator however BART found out that people wouldn't ride the trains unless they thought someone was in charge. Al Fong was there sitting doing nothing but looking out of the window. And I always remember one operator who used to bring his basketball and just sit there and dribble since he used to get bored.

Oh dear folks… please start asking yourselves why this and the tunnel already look decades if not century more older than when we are told they were constructed. I’m born and raised in the Bay Area and there is some serious cognitive dissonance regarding people remembering anything being built. Our bridges, the Bart system, everything was just suddenly here and yet we instantly couldn’t maintain any of it overnight immediately??? All of this was done in my parents and grandparents lifetime and yet everyone says the same - it just opened one day. Lack of substantial construction photos and actual drawings for something built as late as the 70’s, and yet they can’t duplicate or even maintain what should be archaic tech in that case. We inherited a lot of things.

back when Bart trains still worked to full speed, now the target speed is never reached, i I have never seen a Bart Train go over 72 mph and Useally only gets up to 67 in the tube, New trains should bring us back to shorter travel times though, But I feel like with todays technology they could upgrade the system to get even better performance possibly 100+ in the tube would help over crouding, and help us get more trains through the system.

I remember that. I went to school at Cal Berkeley from 1991-1996. There have been so many new extensions since then. I look forward to the BART going to Milpitas where my aunt lives. That would be nice since the traffic can be horrific sometimes on 880.

I used to be a BART Train Operator and are real men and women operating the train at BART as well. Although the system is automatic, there are many situations where a operator is needed to operate the train manually. NYC has a good subway system, but BART is far superior.
