This video was shot on Sunday, March 19th, 2023. We attempted to go to Horseshoe Reservoir to film a water release occurring there, but the road was closed. It had been blockaded by authorities due to flooding and the roads being washed out. There were actually some people who had their travel trailers, RVs, and other vehicles stranded on the other side of the flooding. According to authorities, the road to Horseshoe will likely remain closed for the remainder of calendar year 2023.
So instead of filming Horseshoe, we went to Bartlett Lake instead. Low and behold Salt River Project (SRP) was releasing water from Bartlett Dam too, so I was able to capture some pretty cool footage of the water flowing out from the dam. I was also able to capture a motorcycle rally that arrived in the parking lot where we were staged. Additionally we drove up the north road to the Yellow Cliffs, where I got some good shots as well.
As you'll see in this video, the lake was quite muddy, which is why the water looks very brown. No amount of color grading was going to fix that. The muddy water is due to build-up of sediment over time that gets washed downstream from Horseshoe with rising water levels and large water releases.
Also while we were on location, there just happened to be a sport bike motorcycle club that showed up. Looked like they were having a rally. It was kind of a cool spontaneous opportunity, so I filmed their arrival too.
