Some info given by a commenter "Bryan T": 1 vital monitor can fit up to 4 beds. If you use this design you can use 1 vital monitor with maximum 8 hospital beds: rimworldwiki.com/wiki/File:8_hospital_beds_compact.png 1 multi analyzer can attach up to 4 hi-tech research benches. I personally went in game and did this, the description of these items could be confusing so it is good that we have clarity. But stacking 8 hospital beds up against 1 vital monitor could look very weird and same with the multi analyzers, but for those of you wanted to save resources, take advantage of these cheesy strategies.

Wow... I watched it and realized I've been doing almost all of that for a long time (I play since A17). But firstly, from repeating the truth it doesn't become obsolete. And secondly, some of these things I had no idea about, so thank you for this masterpiece. For new players, I might be able to throw in some advices myself and support things said in the video. -I personally prefer mountain bases, as they have numerous advantages over normal bases. I usually build a segmented 2 tile corridor, and place the most valuable rooms and storages at the deepest point. Yeah it requires some moving of rooms from time to time as the base goes deeper and deeper, but it also ensures safety and multi-layered defence. In order to deal with infestations, just build the most gruesome, dirty and dark room in your life, preferably murder several prisoners in there so it just becomes a mix of rocks, dirt and blood... and don't clean it. Insect prefer to spawn there most of the times, but just a safety measure my base is segmented in such a way that I can completely seal one of them (sometimes with people still in there... yikes) and heat it up. Remember kids, your "priceless" possessions and several colonists aren't worth as much as the whole colony. -Always have several doctors behind the lines. One of my doctors is a great shooter, but he ALWAYS has the best gear, because just as in the real warfare, loosing a squad medic can lead to a very unpleasant end, and just in this case I have several junior medics on a standby during raid, so they can rescue people, and stabilize them enough so they don't die instantly, which ensures they are ready for a second pick up. One more advice. During the most intense battles, I usually lock up my hospital, and put several sleeping spots right after the entrance to my mountain base. So they can immediately drop injured people, patch them up and rush to rescue once again. Better move them to hospital later, than lose sometimes precious seconds to save the best shooter in the colony. -For late game, don't be greedy, and surround even the mountain base with 3-4 layers of walls. I might be paranoid, because I have VOID faction mod installed (ha ha... im in danger). But seriously, if you don't have killboxes, it can grant you precious time to create and think through your line of defence, including traps, positioning and equipment, because sometimes it's better to have at least 2-3h of game time to prepare, than to have none... which is... kinda obvious... right? Удачи, fellow colonists. And remember. War never changes. (BONUS STORY FOR THE MOST CURIOUS ONES. Has no meaning, just wanted to share) - I had a play through, where one of my best shooters/hunters got spine shattered after first our of playthrough and couldn't walk for literally 5 in-game years. colony just grew and grew. He got moved many times but never had a chance to walk by himself. Up until I got him a new spine and as a bonus a painkiller. He lived happily for a week, until the new raid came. Rimworld has no happy endings, so didn't this poor fella. He fought till the last drop of blood, and let his comrades get behind second line of defence inside the mountain. Raiders cut off his arm, cracked his skull, and delivered some permanent brain damage. Despite all this, he continued to fight, and never gave up, until he sustained maximum injuries his body was able to take. He single-handedly took out 4 raiders with his charge rifle and murdered 3 more with plasmasword as things went CQC. I want to believe, that these last days, were the happiest in his life. Almost from the beginning of the colony, where people struggled to survive, he saw what it grew into - a perfect place for anyone to stay, flourishing gardens and happy people. He didn't give away his life for nothing. He gave it away for future, and if not for him, who knows what would the outcome of the battle be. His name was Flusha The First, and he died on 21 of April, 2021 at approximately 16:30. I still remember him to this day as one of the most brave, and tough mfckers in any of my colonies. May his soul rest in peace...

Might be a weird request, but a guide specifically for Mountain Bases would be wonderful? I've always messed up with room sizes and organization for such bases, and constantly struggle to avoid those nasty cave-ins. I've tried to look for a guide video for Mountain Bases, but only find basic guides that don't talk about it much so I'd love it if it was taken into consideration.

Mountain bases are a pain , you end up with infestations all the time. You can mitigate this by digging large amounts of tunnels or if you wanna cheese place sleeping spots in all empty space. If you make a giant room leave the center un mined.

The only flaw I d like to point out is at 7:03. Huskies and Labs can be trained to haul and having a bunch of them around to haul significantly reduces the task load on your pawns and frees them up to do other stuff. Bonus: They'll eat anything including corpses and produce 0 animal filth. Give it a try sometime.

My first mountain base, had a couple as my starter pawns kept them alive, gave them a gold bed, they had a separate ultra nice room from the plebs, I loved them Bugs spawned IN their room, destroying all my work and my little couple I was attached to, I felt awful, the scrub pawns were too far away to help, my base was overrun, I had them near the crafting room since the husband was the main crafter, my workbenches all got destroyed... I started a new colony after that and avoided the mountains for a while, usually doing the trick of building alongside the mountain and only digging in a little (before I learned the mechanics)

some tips that can help -make your dining area near or center the bedrooms, even better place it at the center of your base -make a small dining area near your defense zone, get a stack of packaged meal in those area too so you won't need refrigeration there, and some drugs like wake up and go juice would also help (in case of multiple raids) - if you are building a mountainous base, better to make another cave, dig somewhere far from your actual mountain base so that infestation would rather spawn there instead of inside your base (this will not be always the case, it just lowers the chance for it to spawn in your base) - for the dead raider bodies, make a room of stone blocks, remove from home area and make a stockpile for dead bodies there, just chuck a molotov if it gets full and lock the door, OR make it as a feeding area for your animals - if you have a pawn that is only good at shooting/ melee make that your cleaner and hauler pawn there's some more tips i could give but i'll stop there

This is the max range of a sniper, so if my out defenses (a couple bunkers) are overwhelmed, i fall back and force them into a killzone. I also place 2 dudes in alcoves around midway in the hallway with assault rifles to further reinforce the killzone

Don't use barracks beyond early game? I make a superbarrack combined with dining and rec room and put all my decor in it. You get spacious interior and 3 extremely impressive buffs for the price of building 1 big ass room (much cheaper than extremely impressive 3 rooms) and that more than makes up for the sleep and barrack debuff. Oh, dogs and cats give mood bonus by "nuzzling" actually! So its nice to keep a mascot dog or cat, altho multiple means more frequent nuzzles on more colonists, too many will just drain your food, plus you can train at least dogs to haul, good for moving corpses so pawns dont have to move rotting bodies, plus dogs can always chow down on the dead badguys And barracks are actually viable late game, a very impressive barracks with your dining and rec room together will provide way more mood in a much more space efficient layout then the -3 for disturbed sleep, since pawns mood hits for barracks go down when it is very impressive or getting there

In the Kitchen hint section... Why do you need the food storage and butcher zone to have sterile tiles? Only the cooking area affects the food poisoning chance, so you only need to sterile tile the room with the stove. The rest can get regular pavement or stone tiles just to not be inherrently dirty. Also I find it usually being bad idea to have more then 1 door into the kitchen as it makes some pawns - like hunters bringing freshly shot game - walk through the kitchen when they don't really need to, bringing dirt into the cooking area. So having kitchen as a dead-end room appendage to the freezer it more optimal. This way only the cook will have a reason to walt into it minimizing the dirt intake of the room. And probably worth mentioning - sterile tiles are requiring tech research. Quite a bit of it in fact. And before you ger there, you can use steel tiles. They only require smithing and still provide some cleanliness bonus, though less effective than sterile tiles.
